Kickoff at Sun Devil Stadium (capacity 73,014) is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. (CDT). Last week, the Titans hosted the Cincinnati Bengals. In a game in which the Titans did not trail until the fourth quarter, the Bengals took advantage of three second-half turnovers by the Titans and surged ahead late for a 31-23 victory. The Titans were led by running back Chris Brown, who gained 84 yards and two touchdowns on 18 rushing attempts. It was the second performance of Brown’s career with two rushing touchdowns. The Cardinals had a bye in their schedule last week after starting the season with a 1-4 record. Despite their record, they have the NFL’s fourth-ranked offense and 15th- ranked defense. Their passing attack is one of the best in the league and features two of the top young threats in football -- third-year receiver Anquan Boldin and second-year receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Through five games, Boldin and Fitzgerald each have 36 recep- tions for a combined 1,047 yards. Two-time MVP Kurt Warner and Josh McCown both have started at quarterback for the Cardinals, with Warner missing the last two games with a groin injury. This week’s game will be a homecoming for Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, who spent the first four years of his career with the Cardinals before joining the Titans this past offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Through last Sunday’s games, Vanden Bosch leads the NFL with 6.5 sacks. This week marks only the eighth time the Titans and Cardinals have met. The Cardinals currently lead the series 4-3. Sunday’s matchup also is just the second time the Titans franchise has traveled to Arizona for a regular season game (they played at Arizona in a 27-17 preseason loss in 1999). The Cardinals moved from St. Louis in 1988, and since then they have faced the Oilers/Titans three times -- twice in the Houston Astrodome and once in Sun Devil Stadium in 1997, which was the last time the teams met. In that game, the Oilers defeated the Cardinals 41-14. In his first season as a full-time starter, quarterback Steve McNair led the team to the victory by completing two touchdown passes and rushing for two scores. It was the first occasion in which McNair produced four or more touchdowns and also the first time he rushed for two touchdowns in a game. The first meeting between the teams came in 1970, the year of the AFL-NFL merger. The Cardinals stormed to a 44-0 win, beginning a three-game winning streak against the Oilers (1970, 1974 and 1979). The Oilers then won consecutive games (1985 and 1988) before exchanging victories in the 1990s (Cardinals won in 1994, Oilers in 1997). l Improve Jeff Fisher’s career record as head coach to 101-81 (including playoffs). l Improve Steve McNair’s regular season record as a starting quarterback to 75-49. l Improve the Titans all-time record against the Cardinals to 4-4. l Improve the Titans record against the NFC to 19-7 since the start of the 1999 season.
