A Note From

The Executive Artistic Director

Welcome to the Titusville Playhouse

And THE WILD PARTY!

I would also like to thank YOU for your support of the Titusville Playhouse

especially during these tenuous times. The support of wonderful patrons like you

and the community brings me so much hope! I wanted to let Niko, director of The

Wild Party, share some of his thoughts about this show so I will be brief. Thank

you again for the sharing of your time and your trust in me!

I will see you at Nunsense A-men and hope you have a great time with us today!

Steven J. Heron

Executive Artistic Director

A Note From Director, Niko Stamos Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party is an adaptation of the 1926 poem written by

Joseph Moncure March. The allegorical tale follows the desperately damaged

relationship between vaudeville dancer Queenie and vaudeville clown Burrs, whose

lives are spiraling downward fast and decide the best coping mechanism is to throw

a party-to-end-all-parties. When originally released the poem was highly

controversial and became widely banned for having content viewed as lewd.

In 1994 the poem was re-released as a “lost classic” with illustrations by Art

Spiegelman and caught the attention of two then-up-and-coming musical theatre

composers. In the spring of 2000 the theatre district of New York finally premiered

the two different adaptations of the vaudeville-era musical with Michael John

LaChiusa’s playing on Broadway and Lippa’s Off. Both shows took different

approaches to the original source material with Lippa’s focusing on the story of the

four principals amidst one of the most exciting, pulse-racing musical scores ever

written. Though only playing for 54 performances The Wild Party received six

major theatrical awards and has since been produced all over the world.

We thank you for being our guest at our party and hope you enjoy this steamy

vaudeville tale. I am so proud of the talents of this cast and the hard work they have

put into this show, including reading the original poem by March for inspiration

and understanding. If interested, I recommend reading the original 1926 banned

poem after the show by scanning the QRCode below.
