DIRECTOR’S ANNUAL REPORT 20142
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR AND CHAIR
Every year when we begin the process of developing the Director’s Annual Report, we try to tell our stories in a way that is both meaningful and timely. Given the overwhelming number of staff, students, and community members who have taken to telling their stories in 140 characters or less on a daily basis, we thought it might be fun to do the same with this year’s report.
On the pages that follow, you will find a number of compelling stories that resemble tweets you might find throughout the year from our schools, the board, and others. These tweets represent the engagement of all, and tell our story as it unfolded over the past year. We’re sure that you will be impressed by our accomplishments and the high level of engagement we are experiencing with our students, staff, parents, and community members. As always, you can learn more about our work through a variety of means, including social media, our website tldsb.ca, and our school websites. If these avenues don’t give you all you need, we encourage you to reach out to your local school or the board to learn more.
We hope you enjoy #TLDSBlearns as much as we have enjoyed gathering and telling our stories in this year’s annual report. We look forward to many more great stories in the months and years ahead.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND ACHIEVEMENT
There are so many ways that students in Trillium Lakelands District School Board are engaged in their education. The tweets on these pages demonstrate how students explore, inquire, and investigate to move toward a deep and lasting understanding. Classroom environments are set up to impact the whole child – the intellectual, the mental, and the physical – which leads to engaged and healthy students who are able to learn and succeed.

STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
Trillium Lakelands District School Board staff have many opportunities for professional development throughout the year. Departments offer group training on specific topics but there are also opportunities for self-selected workshops. Well-known presenters are invited to speak with various groups of staff but our own experts within TLDSB provide many of the workshops for staff. #TLDSBlearns has been a great way for staff to share their learning.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Our community partners and our parents/guardians are an integral part of ensuring that our students experience a safe and caring learning community. We continue to work to align and strengthen community partnerships in all departments. There is a focus on enhancing communication from the school to the home to include multiple methods of sharing information with parents.
