The Constitution Review Committee of the Muslim Council of Britain is seeking views and opinions on what the MCB needs to ensure its organisation structure is re-sponsive to present-day and future challenges. The Muslim Council of Brit-ain was established in 1997 after extensive grassroots consultation amongst Muslim communities in the UK.

Since then it has been gov-erned by a constitution that ensures that Britain's leading Muslim umbrella body is democratically-run, abides by agreed standards and acts to give voice and seek consensus amongst Britain's diverse Muslim communities. OMC Qard al-Hasan Appeal Assalaamu alaikum OMC is in currently a debt of £1.2m which needs to be paid back by the end of December 2010. We desperately need donations to raise the deficiet in a very short space of time otherwise we may face the Bank may re-possess OMC and along with it we may lose another building which generates income for a Da’wah organisation. So far we have raised just over £500,000 and are requesting for you to lend the Masjid some of your money for 12 months. We are confident that we will be able to raise the outstanding amount in the next 12 months iA but need the funds now. So we humbly ask you to donate as Qard towards this cause with the guarantee iA that you will be repaid in full at the end of a 12 month period.

Qard al-Hasan in Qur'an and Sunnah In many places of the Holy Qur'an, Allah has mentioned and encouraged His creature for qard al-hasan by assuring better reward in this world and in the Hereafter. In the Qur'an Allah says, 1. He who will give Allah qard al hasan, which Allah will double into his credit and multiply many times. [Al-Baqarah (2): 245] 2. If you give Allah qard al hasan. He will double it to your credit and he will grant you forgiveness. [ Al-Tagabun (64):17] 3. And give Allah qard al hasan. [ Al-Maidah (5): 12] 4. And give Allah qard al hasan, it will be increased manifold to their credit. [ Al-Hadid (57): 18] 5. Who is he that will give Allah qard al hasan? For Allah will increase it manifold to his credit. [Al-Hadid (57):11] 6. Establish regular prayer and give regular charity and give Allah qard al hasan---. [Al- Muzzammil (73): 20] The sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.s) is also very clear on this issue. It is reported that the Prophet (saw) said, "in the night of the journey, I saw on the gate of heaven written, 'reward for sadakah is ten times and reward for qard al-hasan is eighteen times'. So, I asked the angel, how is it possible? The angel replied, "Because beggar who asked had already had something but a loanee did not ask for loan unless he was in need." [Ibn Hisham & Ibn Majah].

In another hadith reported by Abu Hurairah (R), the Prophet (s.a.s) said, "whoever relieves a believer from a difficulty in this world, Allah will relieve him from his difficulty and Allah will facilitate him in this world and world hereafter." [Muslim] The above Qur'anic verses and ahadith directly and indirectly encourage the Muslims to give qard alhasan and which will increase their credits in manifold and bring forgiveness for them.

********* PROJECTS IN CANARY WHARF ************************* The Canary Wharf Muslim Association (WharfMA) Presents: MENTORING IN THE WHARF

Mentoring is a proven way to increase the performance and fulfil the potential of mentees and help young people and students in particular to raise and realise their aspirations. Whether it's talking to someone in their chosen fields, harnessing their resources to pur-sue their goals, or gain useful insight on career choices, mentees can benefit greatly from the scheme. There is a huge range of benefits for mentors as well: encountering chal-lenges you otherwise wouldn't in the work environment; developing transferable skills that are directly relevant to the workplace; being a role model; increasing awareness, and giv-ing back to the local community. Mentors can make a huge difference to building a strong and secure future for the local community. What Mentees at Tower Hamlets College Say: Zafrin Begum (GNVQ Intermediate Business student) "...the person was a perfect role-model...from his behaviour, status and qualifications, also from his vast knowledge." Ahmed Ali (A Level Economics, Law and Communication Student) "My mentor helped me to manage my time more effectively and to develop study skills which helped me improve my marks." Shafiqul Islam (A Level Maths, Computing and Law) "Mentoring has been very useful in helping me decide what I would eventually like to do in the future." What it involves: *Meeting your mentee for one hour every month, where they will be able to discuss aca-demic work, career aspirations etc. *Full training and on-going support from the Mentoring Coordinator. *At least 6 months commitment to the scheme. Who can be a Mentor? Mentors can come from a wide variety of backgrounds; they need to be focused and have a positive attitude towards raising aspirations and achievements. Then MENTORING IS FOR YOU!!! For further details, or to join the mentoring programme, please contact: Tel: 0207 510 7994 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.wharfma.com

Canary Wharf Muslim Association [WharfMA] presents:

1) CHAPTER 6 - SURAH AL-AN'AM (THE CATTLE)

with Ustadh Hafiz Abdullah Muhammad*

Date: Tuesday 14th December 2010

Time: 6pm - 9pm

Venue: Idea Store Canary Wharf, Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5RB

Surah al-An'am (6) is the first 'Makkan' chapter after Surah Al-Fatihah (1) af-

ter a series of long Madinan Surahs. Also, unlike all the previous long Surahs which were revealed piece-meal, this

Surah was was revealed all at once. Its revelation was accompanied by 70,000 angels which demonstrates the Surah's importance.

Whereas the previous Chapters dealt with the Ahl al-Kitab (Jews & Chris-

tians), this Surah makes reference to the Mushrikeen (Idolaters). The Surah begins with "All praise be to Allah who cre-

ated the heavens and the earth" (v.1) and the central themes of the Surah are Tawheed (monotheism), demonstra-

tion of Allah's Omnipotence and the rejection of polytheism by way of super-

stitious beliefs and practices, something not uncommon in our times in differ-ent forms.

In this 7th session of the monthly Journey Through the QurÂ’an series, we will

examine the history, structure and guidance provided in Surah al-AnÂ’am and their contemporary relevance.

All welcome - Notes included. Please bring a copy of the Quran

Attendance of previous sessions not necessary and no pre-requiste knowledge

Recruiting of community members Newham is part of a 4 borough (TH, N, CH and Waltham Forest) project to in-

crease awareness of signs and symptoms of breast and lung cancer and early presentation in primary care. Part of the project will use a publicity campaign

but there will also be other ways of delivering the message. To find out what we don’t know yet and test out ideas, I will need to recruit members from the

following groups and would really appreciate your input on the best places to

go (we are not using a street recruitment agency). For lung cancer our tar-get is White men and women and Bangladeshi men 50+ years, smokers and

ex-smokers. For breast cancer it is women 40+ from White, Black, Bangla-deshi, Pakistani and Indian groups.

I will be recruiting people for individual interviews, paired interviews (2 friends who know each other) and small focus groups but will only need to

find 2 or 3 people for each. So I am hoping that you can suggest appropriate groups or places for recruit-

ing people other than just the usual suspect like community centres. White men and women (semi-skilled / unskilled group / unemployed or pen-

sioner) smokers and ex-smokers – will we find people in this category in com-munity centres which is where we would normally go? Are there other places

you would suggest? I would probably recruit one or two people for each in-terview / group and provide a financial incentive.

Women 40+, White, Black, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Indian ( mix of all so-

cioeconomic groups) I would really appreciate your input. Do you think you can get back to me by

the end of the week? Thanks a lot.

The Crazy spots

I’ve prayed

Nasheeds and Poetry Page | Page 60

All the earth is a place of prostration,

Every field and meadow, mountain, park, city, farm

plantation.

Every roadside, seaside, hillside, walkway,

Any lace clean and green can be a place to pray

When I think of every path, where I've ever trot,

I laugh at all the crazy spots I stopped to worship

God.

Remember that long car ride?

Driving all night so far,

Under the summer moon we pulled off to the side,

Reclining in the front seat of the car.

Waking to a fajr bird sound,

And washing in the coin car wash we found.

With the water blaster making wudhu,

You sprayed me and I sprayed you.

We stood so drowsy in the dawn,

Behind the car wash dripping on the lawn.

All the earth is a place of prostration,

Every field and meadow, mountain, park, city, farm

plantation.

Every roadside, seaside, hillside, walkway,

Any place clean and green can be a place to pray

When I think of every path, where I've ever trot,

I laugh at all the crazy spots I stopped to worship

God.

Saturday shopping day, in a busy mall and bustling

through the aisles,

Where everyone's getting in my way.

Each blank zombie we shop and face forty smiles.

Time comes for prayer attack,

Grab a pair of pants or a sweater from the rack.

Find a changing room and latch the door,

Set aside excuses and hit the floor.

As I go back to the mall,

It's easier then to make sense of it all.

God.

And our socks froze to the blanket,

That we spread over the snow,

Your call to prayer bounced off the trees and across

the icy meadow.

Crisp and clean cold air, our hearts were so aware,

Our bodies felt the frozen freedom what a very cool

place for prayer!

God.

There was a time next to the river;

There was a time in the school hall.

There was that stairwell in that building,

There was that forest in the fall.

The movie house corridor,

The airplane kitchen in the sky.

So many places I'm sure there'll be more

Pieces of earth to testify.

God.

HMC was born essentially out of one concern and one concern only;

to be able to provide assurance that we are eating genuine Halal, not just “because it says Halal… it must be Halal!"

HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit

and treachery. Muslims are being betrayed by individuals & corporations whose only concern is making fast, easy money. Using 'blessed blades', pre

recorded Bismillah, captive bolts, electrified water and even pork proteins; the hard-earned Halal cash of many is being used to buy Haram. HMC has

therefore, shouldered the enormous responsibility of discharging an obliga-tory duty on behalf of you, the community at large. Help HMC to Help You!

NMO are looking for volunteers who wish to make a positive

Redstar stormed their group with

3 out of 3 wins much like A

team. A team came up against a

very tough Central Park side in

the quarters, who took the game

3-1. Central went on to the

semi’s against Inter Asia who

were unstoppable from group

games until the final.

APSA came up against

some fine opposition in Al

Ekhwa and took a heavy 7-

4 defeat in their opening

group game. They needed

6 points to qualify and

managed to get them with

an injury time goal from

Jilu Manan to make it 3-2

against East West.

Redstar made easy work of

PSG in the quarters and in

a very closely matched

semi final encounter with

old adversaries APSA. The

deadlock was broken by a

superb goal by Man of the

tournament Tahir Hamid to

confirm their spot in the

final. Another

two followed from Aslam

Alvi and Shabber Khan

and APSA were out.

Inter Asia came away with

a clean sheet from the

group games, and made

easy work of Central Park

in the semi final with a fine

3-1 victory.

The Final

A real hard graft from

Head referee Zabir Khan.

Some firm decisions were

taken. A penalty retake for

Redstar

was hotly

contested

but fairly

dealt with.

Redstars

and player

extraordi-

naire

Aslam

Alvi

scored a

scammer

to set them

off. Shab-

ber Khan

followed

in with

another

to make it

a 2-0 victory. Inter Asia

came close to scoring but

were thwarted by some

brilliant defending from

Ahmed and Pirbhai.

Head tournament organ-

iser Urfat Hussain had

this to say

“I’m really pleased we

managed to get this tour-

nament on and I’m very

grateful to Wadham

Lodge who have a fantas-

tic facility in Walthams-

tow. I’d recommend it

any day of the week. A

big thank you needs to go

to all the teams who

made the effort to attend.

It wouldn’t have been

possible without the peo-

ple who helped to put this

all together. In particular

Naeem Kakuji who

stayed up all hours of the

night to help finalise

things along with Jam

who gave me some very

much needed last minute

help. “

Chairman Zulfi Ali

“The calibre of players

was tremendous, it was a

pleasure meeting with so

many players/managers

who we used to do battle

with during our younger

more erratic days. Some

fantastic work done by

Urfat and the rest of the

team and a great tourna-

ment played on with

many a request to make

it happen every two

months”
