Muslim Aid, first NGO in the West

to Sign Agreement with OIC

A leading British Muslim NGO, Muslim Aid, today signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed at the OIC Headquarters by the Secretary-General of the OIC, Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and the Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, on behalf of their respective organisations. The MOU establishes a strategic partnership between the OIC and Muslim Aid that will enable implementa-tion of long-term sustainable development programmes. Under the MOU Muslim Aid and OIC shall also exchange information concerning humanitarian disasters and consult each other on matters of mutual interest. Muslim Aid will coordinate activities in any country where the OIC does not maintain an office for purposes of managing an emergency or development project approved by the OIC member States. The Secretary-General of the OIC, Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said: "Muslim Aid is an extremely important partner of OIC. They have done remarkable work in coordinating the delivery of OIC's humanitarian assis-tance programmes in disaster affected countries. Have your organisations

implement services

“accessible information” for

disabled people?

The Equality Act 2010 requires public bodies or

other organisations that are making grants to make

reasonable adjustments to the way in which they

provide their services, and carry out public functions. This is to avoid disabled

people being put at a substantial disadvantage, in comparison with non-

disabled people, in the use of those services or functions.

One requirement of this duty is for the organisation providing services or de-

livering functions to take reasonable steps to provide an auxiliary aid or ser-

vice where this would avoid disabled people being put at a disadvantage. An

auxiliary aid or service could include, for example, making adjustments to the

documents they use for handling grant applications, such as making the

forms available in accessible formats like Easy Read, or large print.

A failure to make a reasonable adjustment is a form of disability discrimina-

tion. If a disabled person considers that they have been discriminated

against by an organisation that is administering grants, they may take action

to enforce their rights through a county court.

We ask you to Support for People Affected by Stroke when carrying out their

functions, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity

for disabled people. And help and support for people with aphasia....

Reviving the Sunnah (Part 2)

The forgotten Sunnah, the beard

In the pervious article the importance of adopting the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم as a role model was

discussed. In this article one of the greatest Sunnah of the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم will be discussed,

which is keeping a beard. Following the Sunnah of the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم is one of the most

important aspects of Islam. Allah mentions in the Quran” O! You who believe, obey Allah and obey the

Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم and those in authority among you” )4:59). Following the Sunnah of the Prophet )

.is obeying him ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم

Sayydina Anas ( ) narrates that the Prophet ( عنه اهللا رضى said “the person who loves my صلى اهللا عليه وسلم(

Sunnah, loves me and he will be with me in Paradise”. )Tirmidhi) Furthermore, if a person wishes to attain

closeness to Allah, they will need to follow the Sunnah, as Shaykh Muhammed Saleem Dhorat says, “the

quickest way of acquiring the friendship of Allah is through adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet ( صلى

(”.اهللا عليه وسلم

The Importance of keeping a beard

Many Muslims believe that keeping a beard is merely a Sunnah. They think that if someone keeps a beard

they will receive a reward, and if they do not keep a beard then there is no sin. This assumption is incorrect

because keeping a beard is Wajib (necessary).

The Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم always kept a beard and he ordered all the Muslims to do so, and he showed

displeasure towards anyone who failed to keep a beard. All the companions, tabi‟een and tabi-tabi‟een kept

a beard. This alone proves the importance of keeping a beard.

The Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم has mentioned “oppose the pagans! Grow your beards long and trim your

moustaches”. During the time of the prophet ) ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم the Pagans of Makkah use to shave their

beards and let their moustaches grow. In order to oppose them, the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم ordered the

Muslim to grow their beard. In this hadith, the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم orders the Muslims “let your

beards grow”. In the science of hadith there is a common formula which is, whenever the Prophet ) صلى اهللا

( عليه وسلم gives an order to carry out a certain act, then the act contrary to that will not be permissible to do.

In this case the Prophet ( ( صلى اهللا عليه وسلم has ordered the Muslims to keep a beard, hence the act contrary to

this is not keeping a beard, which is impermissible.

Furthermore, according to all the school of thought, shaving the beard is Haram (impermissible). Abu Da-

wood says “shaving the beard is haram according to the Muslim jurist such as Imam Abu-Hanifa, Malik,

Sha‟fee, Ahmed and Ibn-Taymiyah” )Manhal).

Another point which is worth mentioning here is that keeping the beard is deemed as one of the natural

practices in Islam. Ibn-hibban mentions “from among the natural practices of Islam is the trimming of the

moustaches and fully growing a beard. The fire worshippers grew their moustaches long and cut their

beards. Do the opposite, trim your moustaches and let your beards grow long” )Hukmul-lihya fil-Islam).

In short, this article proves that keeping a beard was a great Sunnah of the Prophet (( (,صلى اهللا عليه وسلم so

much so that the famous Muslim jurist has deemed it to be Wajib (necessary). The next article will be re-

garding the required length of the beard in Islam, inshallah.

Imâm Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah says "It is not possible to encompass one of

Iblees’ evils, let alone all of them. Since Iblees’ evil is of six types, Iblees remains

behind the son of Adam until he gets him to do one or more of these six evils."

1) THE FIRST EVIL IS THE EVIL OF KUFR AND SHIRK and enmity to Allaah (SWT)

and His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam).

If he gains this from the son of Adam, his moaning is eased, and he rests from

his ordeal with this man. Further, this is the first thing Iblees wants from the

worshipper (al-’Abd). If Iblees gains this, he makes this person part of his army,

one of his soldiers, and he appoints him as a deputy or agent against other hu-

man beings. Then, this person becomes one of the deputies or callers of Iblees.

2) If he despairs of enticing him with the first evil, and if this person is one of

those for whom it was written that he would be a Muslim in his mother’s womb,

Iblees tries:

The second class of evil.

THIS IS BID’AH (innovation). Iblees loves Bid’ah more than debauchery and dis-

obedience because the harm of Bid’ah is in the essence of the religion. Moreover,

it is an unrepentable sin and is against the call of the messengers and is a call to

a message different from the one conveyed by Ar-Rasool. Bid’ah is a gate to Kufr

and Shirk. Therefore, if Iblees gains the performance of Bid’ah from a person and

makes him one of the people of Bid’ah, he also becomes one of his agents and a

caller of his.

The Ultimate Technique To Getting Or-

ganized And Staying that Way!

Is disorganization congesting your life? Are you feeling scattered and frustrated? Is your life in disarray? Are you

stressed out? Are you buying things you already have? Are you procrastinating and leaving things for the last minute?

De-cluttering and organizing your space helps to eliminate the physical and mental clutter in your life and

mind that is robbing you of your of vitality and productivity.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Verily Allah loves Ihsan (proficiency and excellence) in all things.” (Muslim)

Islam encourages us to be neat, to be organized and to strive for excellence in all things. In the seerah of the Prophet

Muhammad (peace be upon him) we can see that he was organized, efficient and productive. Allah does not like dis-

organization nor laziness.

It‟s a myth that some people are born with an organizing gene or are natural organizers and others will never be or-

ganized. The honest reality is that organized and productive people have learned skills and made it a habit of being

organized!

Now that we all can form the habit of being organized its time to roll up your sleeves and get in there!! If you want to

be a successful Productive Muslim you need to be on top of your game!

Full of Humility

Put all our pride away, always find a

gentle word to say you know we

shouldn't fool ourselves, Allah has

given so much to you and me.

Put all our pride away, Always thank

Allah when we pray, You know we

shouldn't be full of ourselves when

we, should be full of humility.

We're all livin' here together on this

planet floatin' round the sun

We're all equal to one another, no

one's better than anyone

The only thing we have to weigh us all

apart is the faith only Allah can

see, deep inside our hearts.

Put all our pride away, always find a

gentle word to say you know we

shouldn't fool ourselves, Allah has

given so much to you and me.

Put all our pride away, Always thank

Allah when we pray, You know we

shouldn't be full of ourselves

when we, should be full of humil-

ity.

Trying hard to simply be humble and

never act too proud

It's easy to trip and stumble with

your nose up above the clouds

Its always best to be modest and

keep our feet on the ground-

Cause pride will eat us up inside

if we're arrogant and loud.

Put all our pride away,

always find a gentle word to say

O you who believe! Eat not up your property amongst yourselves in vanities: but let there be amongst you traffic and trade by

mutual good-will: nor kill )or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah has been to you Most Merciful. [Al Qur‟an 4:29]

HMC was born essentially out of one concern and one concern only;

to be able to provide assurance that we are eating genuine Halal, not just “because it says Halal… it must be Halal!"

HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit

and treachery. Muslims are being betrayed by individuals & corporations whose only concern is making fast, easy money. Using 'blessed blades', pre

recorded Bismillah, captive bolts, electrified water and even pork proteins; the hard-earned Halal cash of many is being used to buy Haram. HMC has

therefore, shouldered the enormous responsibility of discharging an obliga-tory duty on behalf of you, the community at large. Help HMC to Help You!

50KM Desert Trek Assalamu Alaikum. My name is Umar Malik, I'm 19 years old and a second year student at Brunel University.

Insha'Allah on the 18th March 2011 I will be participating in a challenge organised by Muslim Hands. It will

be a 50km desert trek in Wadi Rum, Jordan. The cause is to give essential job skills and training for the

destitute women of rural Bangladesh, many of whom are widows, and also to support orphans worldwide.

I need to raise a steep total of £3000 (minimum) by the departure of the trip insha'Allah. Please may I ask

for your support in this cause by donating generously and spreading the word to any family, friends or col-

leagues.

The way to donate is to go to www.justgiving.com/umar-maliks

PLAYING FIVE A SIDE FOOTBALL IS HEALTHIER than lifting weights or going gym, If not better, than running, because of its benefits for the heart. The results of the research suggest that football could be recommended as part of treatment for health problems such as high-blood pressure. The intensity and range of move-ments involved in the game, including kicks, twists, turns and sprints, provide bet-ter overall exercise, according to a series of studies. Five-a-side is more beneficial than a 11-a-side as it ensures that all players get a vigorous workout. The Benefits It can help cut the risk of heart disease It can help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels It is a good way to lose weight Cheap and cheerful: The "beautiful" game is one of the cheapest and easiest sports to get involved in. All you need is a ball, a group of friends and a good league like muslim5aside – much easier on the wallet than about £50 per month at the gym. With muslim5aside it can cost as little as £3 per game per player for a 50 minute game officiated by an FA qualified Ref. Football is also one of the best sports for burning calories. In an hour’s play, the average 190lb man will burn over 800 calories – a rate comparable to swimming, rugby, cycling and basketball. VISIT: www.muslim5aside.com EMAIL: [email protected]

APSA THROW AWAY THREE POINTS

Sports Page Page 81

to level the match. APSA could have sown up the whole match if Akpele had got hold a volley inside the box after good work from

Murray and Paul, ended with the later sending over a peach of a ball into the area, but he mistimed his

struck to the ball which just ballooned

high towards the goal, and the keeper caught just under this cross-

bar.

Minutes later new boy Kasey, on after 30 min-

utes for the injured Antony Lane, who

limped off with a pulled groin, had a

fierce shot, this time from a Murray

cross, smashed against the post.

With time running out, Manor fullback Michael Marin pro-

duced a superb shot from fully 25 years out which

eluded the diving Brown curled and

finger tips to another goal bound shot.

The visitors hit the post soon after but overall

the APSA defence which had not conceded a

goal for 4 matches half firm, led by the captain Matthew Frew which marshalling of the de-

fence and power In the air was a major obstacle

for the visitors.

The second had was similar to the first, with the home defence hold-ing firm to anything Eton threw at them and the visitors were getting very frustrated, as they run out of ideas on how

LONDON APSA 1 ETON MANOR FC 2

Greg Akpele put APSA ahead in the 29th min-

ute when he found him-self one on one against

the goalkeeper and coolly passed the ball into the corner of the

next.

Within minutes the visi-tors come storming in on the APSA goal and young keeper Steve Brown pulled of two

breath-taking saves to keep the hosts ahead.

First he dived acrobati-cally to push away a

fierce full volley from 12 years out for a corner

and minutes later, dived full length to get his

dipped into the top corner of the net, in

the 83th minute.

Seven minutes later, the same player, this time from the other side of the pitch put in a free kick inside the hosts six yard box, which eluded

everyone and ended up in the back of the

next.

A huge disappoint-ment for APSA who

seem to have turned a corner after Satur-days one nil victory against Hullbridge

with only tem men, now have to build

themselves up again with three tough

away games in the next two weeks be-ginning with the visit

to title chasing En-field 1893 this coming

Saturday.
