Hi everyone,

Following the news the other evening a political debate programme came on. The presenter stated this was to be the start of the 100 days run up to the General Election. He had in the studio two members of leading and opposing party’s. For the purpose of this article, it doesn’t matter who they were.

They were hacking into each other with one saying “The parameters you set the Office for Statistical Information guaranteed you the results you obtained for your report on the NHS”. Then the other person said “No it wasn’t but your report on Education was based on constraints on the OSI similar to those you accuse us of”.

It was nothing more than ping pong gainsay. There was no constructive debate whatsoever. I remember thinking, 100 days of twerps like this? The most worrying part was when I realised that one of these persons was highly likely to be in the next formed government.

Sadly Dimbleby and Paxman were nowhere to be found, had they been a more interesting debate would have, I’m sure, emerged. In a poor an attempt to mimic these idols of interview the presenter did cut into one of the debaters and challenged him over one of the issues raised. His challenge was met with the reply. “It has been statistically proven”

I remember thinking “Statistically proven?” Now there are two words which certainly do not belong in the same sentence! Stay safe everyone
