Can you tabata to the top? In our ongoing effort to create additional value for our members, the Alamosa
Family Recreation Center announces four new fitness and wellness classes. Want to feel better, get
stronger, go longer, or lose weight? Here's your chance to work with a trainer and make your goals come
true. These classes have been kept short so you'll have no trouble fitting them into a busy day.
Remember, classes are free to members, so take advantage of these opportunities to make 2016 a great
year for your health. Starting the week of February 1:
1) Senior Fit. Mondays at 11 to 11:45 a.m.. We'll use stability balls, dumbbells, bands, mats, and chairs
to get our muscles moving. Focus is on seniors who are able to walk and stand, but who need guidance in
performing exercises to elevate strength, balance, endurance, stability, flexibility, and also control weight.
Open to all ages who want a light, yet effective workout. Bring your own mat or use one of ours. Come
early to get your spot.
2) Nutrition for Wellness & Weight Loss. A 10 session course. Meet once a week for lunch Thursdays
from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. A different nutritional topic each week. Learn what foods and what habits are
best for you. All ages welcome. If desired, a body fat reading at start... and at end. This will also be

aimed at nutrient dense nutrition to build the immune system and improve the way you look, feel, and
perform. Class starts on time.
3) Tabata to the Top. Thursdays 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open to all ages from 14 up who can handle a
high intensity all-body workout. Trainer must approve you at class time or via phone call. We'll use
dumbbells, mats, stability balls, bosu balls, weighted sticks, weighted balls, and our own bodyweight for a
fast paced burn that'll send you home feeling like a new you. You might want to bring your own towel.
Come early to setup.
4) Positively Time to Unwind. Thursdays at 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. All ages welcome. Be On Time and
Quiet is necessary. We'll focus on relaxation through meditation, breathing, stretching, and positive
thinking. You'll be taught all you need to know for the class. This practice can change your life, your
outlook, health and happiness. Don't arrive late. It's a short class and we want to make the most of it.
Fitness and Wellness coach Patrick Murphy has 8 years experience and is looking forward to seeing you
there. Additional fitness and wellness coaching available outside these classes. Questions? See our
website or call Patrick at 210-852-8980.

President’s Day (February 15)
Kudos:
Congratulations to Daniel Montano and Alberto Arias, they both received Kudo cards!
Daniel received a Kudo card from Pat Steenburg for outstanding work ethic!
On Sunday, the 18th
of January, a resident returned to his home after a multi-day trip out of
town. Upon arrival he realized that he had no water in the home and called dispatch for after-
hours water service. Daniel Montano responded to the call and was at the residence within 15
minutes. He evaluated the situation and discovered that the water meter had frozen sometime
during the previous few days of cold weather and within 15 minutes of arrival had water service
back to the home. The resident made a point to contact the Public Works Department to
compliment Daniel on his professionalism, knowledge, and great attitude.
Alberto received a Kudo card from Mark Gonzales for outstanding work ethic!
Mark expressed how above and beyond Alberto goes on his daily work every day! He takes
pride in doing his absolute best when completing a job.
If you have someone you’d like to recognize, please see Jolene Webb at the City Manager’s office.
