LAST WEEK

Gale & Dana Hanna have served our congregation for years hosting foreign exchange students. We have an opportunity to join them in this act of hospitality and meet a real need by hosting students from all over the world for a semester or a full school year. If you are interested, please contact Gale for information and valuable experience.

Visitors! (and members): If you missed our Bible Class brochure in the Welcome Center, you can use your phone to access a complete list of classes and their locations. And if you don’t know how to get to those rooms, just ask us and we’ll show or take you there. Classes start at 9:45 a.m. Scan here for our Bible Class information.

BIBLE CLASS INFORMATION

FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS

The ESP (Empowering Seniors Program) meeting for this month will be Thursday, Feb. 27, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 100. Howard Norton will be the speaker, and his topic is, “Don’t Let The Old Man In!” I hope you will make plans now to attend what will be an encouraging and inspiring presentation. Refresh-ments will be provided as usual.

SENIOR SERVANTS

Beginning this week the church office will start emailing a Church Family Update every Tuesday. These will consist of births, deaths and hospital information within our church family. If you have information to include, please contact the church office by 5 p.m. on Mondays.

CHURCH FAMILY UPDATES

A wedding shower for Eleanor Love and Nick Ewing will be held February 22 at the Lightle Home, 605 E. Race Avenue. Everyone is invited to join them at 6 p.m. for gifts and a grilled cheese sand-wich bar. Contact Shelley Yeakley for more details. Selections are at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Amazon.

WEDDING SHOWER TO COLLEGE CHURCH

Page 2: TO COLLEGE CHURCH · Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own under-standing. In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths

PRAYER CONCERNS Nancy Collins is in Compassionate Care Center and would appreciate visits and calls; Louise Ga-nus remains in rehab at The Crossing. Laveda Perdue is homebound. Cards, calls and visits would be appreciated. SYMPATHY Pat Maddox, mother of Brian Maddox, passed away Saturday, February 8. Her funeral service was Thursday, February 13 in Hot Springs. Vincel Ferguson, father of Peggy Alton, passed away Sunday, February 9. Services were Friday in Hebron.

Last Sunday was certainly a memorable day for College Church! Fourteen additional men were ap-pointed to help lead our church family. You submitted hundreds of nominations, and the selection committee did the hard work of determining who should be chosen. I’m thankful for their efforts! And what a blessing to have so many with the qualities of a shepherd; it’s a great testament to what a spe-cial place College Church is. Continue to pray for our elders, especially the newest ones as they adapt to their different role among us. Generous giving is another proof of a healthy and active church family. I am continually amazed by the generosity of this church. At the time of this article, our giving is just over $23,000 ahead of our budg-et. God promises that if we trust Him, give as we have been blessed, and serve others, His blessings will not cease. Obviously, we believe His promise! It is exciting to be a part of a church that is doing so many good things and constantly seeking ways to do more. Remember, your giving is making a differ-ence in people’s lives today and for all eternity! Thank you for your financial offerings, your daily pray-ers, and the love you show for others!

NOEL’S NOTES

PRAYER & PRAISE

If this gloomy February finds you in need of inspiration, listen to the story of Sujin Nelson. Chapter 1 In the province of Prachinburi, Thailand, Sujin’s father warns his 8-year-old daughter to stay away from Christianity, that “odd religion.” So she passes her childhood in ignorance of Christ, until one day she sees a poster advertising free English lessons using the Christian Bible. Chapter 2 Sujin goes for the language study but stays for the Christian life-style. Eventually she is baptized. She graduates from Bangkok’s Ramkham-haeng University with a passion to teach others about Christ, starting with her own mother. Other family members follow.

Chapter 3 Sujin’s life is darkened by trials that leave her without much hope, but she leans on her trust in God, who, she believes, leads her to Harding in 2006. She graduates from the Center for Advanced Ministry Training with a renewed desire to bring the gospel to Thailand. Chapter 4 From 2008-2019, Sujin works with a mission team in Bangkok for the campus ministry at her alma mater. As her Thai mentors had done, she first be-friends her students, then teaches them about the Lord. Last November, she returns to Searcy with fond

memories of the new and old Christians she leaves behind. The next chapter in Sujin’s life is about to unfold. She is busy learning Ger-man in preparation for a three-month stay in Vienna, Austria, where she will join a ministry to that country’s large population of refugees. Afterwards, she will meet with supporting congregations to determine if the work has long-term potential. To her it does: “The country is overwhelmed and the refugees are without hope. This is a great opportunity to relieve suffering and help desperate people learn of the One who offers ultimate salvation.” So we ask, “Sujin, what is your favorite scripture?”

Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own under-standing. In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.” Sujin’s favorite scripture fits with how she’s lived since becoming a Christian: trusting the same God who guides her through hardship to help her reach those in need of Good News. If this story—the triumph of one woman’s trust and hope—doesn’t drive win-ter from your bones, nothing will.

SUJIN NELSON: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE?

Thanks to all the widows, widowers, and senior couples who came to our Sweetheart Celebration last Sunday. It was our honor to honor your marriages. They are a priceless lesson for our young people on the value God places upon marriage. We hope this annual event will continue to bless old and young alike.
