1.Regarding the novel coronavirus infection
1. The virus spreads from person to person contact.
2. The symptoms appear within 3-14 days after being infected to the virus.
3. Asymptomatic carries can help spread the virus.
4. Try not to get infected with the virus is of great importance.
5. Try not to transmit the virus to others is of great importance.

Why are preventive measures important?
2. Current situation about the spread of the virus
1. Overseas: WHO declared a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” on 30 January 2020.
2. Strengthening border control; flight suspension/reduction.
3. Japan: A nationwide state of emergency was declared on April 16, 2020.
4. A state of emergency was lifted on May 25. Prevention of the cluster infections is still required.
5. Request to refrain from going out.

3.Covid-19: Causes and symptoms
1. Infection by airborne droplets (sneezing, cough and saliva)
2. Infection by contact (touching a door knob, desk and PCs)

How do we get infected?
1. A fever/respiratory symptoms will last for about a week.
2. Excessive fatigue or difficulty in breathing.
3. If you get gravely sick, the infection can lead to severe pneumonia and even to death.
What are the typical symptoms?
4.How to prevent the infection
1. Washing your hands and gargling regularly(With soap or disinfectant)
2. Cough etiquette(Wearing a facial mask)
3. Health self-monitoring(Taking your body temperature)
4. Getting plenty of rest and enough nutrients
5. Refraining from going out and avoid coming to class when you are sick

5.Prevention of “cluster infections”

6.NU’s request to prevent the spread of the virus(1)
1. Avoid crowded places:
Sport gyms; karaoke bars; dining-out in a group; large events etc.
2. Please refrain from moving across prefectures
3. Please refrain from going out for non-essential or non-urgent reasons*. *You can go out only for essential reasons, like hospital visits, grocery
shopping and going for a walk.
4. Suspension of extracurricular activities; bans on the use of facilities for extracurricular activities

7. How to monitor your health condition(1)
You can download the health checklist from Student Web System or HERE.
After filling in the checklist, please submit it by email or bring it directly to the Students’ affairs section of your faculty or graduate school.

※ When you finish filling in the checklist, please submit the scheet to your faculty or graduate school.
※ If your symtoms go away, please fill in the checklist up until the day when your symptoms have gone, and submit it to us.
7. How to monitor your health condition(2)
1. Monitor your health condition for 7 or 14 days.
During the self-monitoring, please refrain from coming to classes and going out
for non-urgent, non-essential reasons.※In the case you have cold-like symptoms, you can start coming to classes after all symptoms disappear.
2. Take your temperature twice a day: morning and evening→You need a thermometer
3. Record your health condition and symptoms.
4. After finishing health self-monitoring, submit the checklist to the Students’ affairs section of your faculty or graduate school.

10. If you are required to return to your home country
1. If you are an exchange student, please consult with your home university and decide the return date;
2. Please contact the students’ affairs section of your faculty or graduate school immediately. Do not go back to your home country without informing us of your return;
3. If you are living in NU’s dormitories, international house and university-leased apartments, please contact international office;
4. Various procedures needed: moving-out procedures for dormitory, moving-out notice at city office, closure of your bank account, settling the bills etc. 14
