Our Independence Day holiday is over, so maybe now is a perfect time to take advantage of everything summer (and more sunshine) has to offer!

Want more sleep at night? Try a morning walk! Here’s why a morning walk helps us get more sleep at night: According to the National Sleep Foundation, our sleep is determined by our natural body clock, or circadian rhythm……And one of the easiest ways to RESET our body clock is to get at least 20 minutes of exercise a day. However, a recent study found that exercising in morning light works best…… Because morning light is filled with blue rays that synchronize our circadian rhythm. So when bedtime rolls around, we'll be primed to sleep.

Want to enjoy your golden years? The more you know, the better you will, especially when it comes to knowing 3 easy ways to assess your

risk of stroke and dementia. * Number one is the *handshake test.* According to a report by the American Academy of Neurology, people with firm handshakes are 42% less likely to suffer from a stroke or dementia. What's the connection? The car-diovascular problems that cause trouble in the brain also weaken muscles in our extremities. So, strong hands mean strong arteries. * The next *stroke and dementia red flag: your friends have to slow down when they walk with you.* Researchers at the Boston Medical Center found that middle aged people with slower walking speeds were one-and-a-half times more likely to develop dementia. That’s because walking speed indi-cates general fitness levels. Plus, walking requires our brains to coordinate

a variety of tasks; a fast pace means that your brain is processing information ef-ficiently. * And finally, *poor sleep increases your risk of memory problems.* According to a study at the Washington University School of Medicine, your brain uses the time you’re asleep to flush out the pro-teins that play a role in the development of Alzheimer’s. But chronic sleep distur-bances allow the proteins to build up to dangerous levels. Do your best to get at least seven hours of sleep a night.
