I am Kimberly Hierholzer, your new Lead Child and Your Program Coordinator (LCYPC). I work alongside Ashley Semerad out of the Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) building located in Latham, New York. I recently relocated to the Capital District from the Thousand Islands region in search of a new adventure! I most recently worked in the Child Welfare field as a Foster Care Recruitment and Training Coordinator and prior to that I was a Child and Youth Program Aid for Child and Youth Services on Fort Drum. I have over ten years of experience working with children and families, focusing on building and maintaining relationships.
I enjoy spending my leisure time with my family, my friends and doing my part by volunteering. Some of my most favorite activities in the Spring, Summer and Fall are kayaking, golfing and anything that gets me out on the St. Lawrence River! I spend the Winter months "surviving" the elements and planning for the up-coming warmer months!
I look forward to assisting in supporting our military families and keeping them strong. I am anxious and excited to see how this new journey will enhance my life as well as the lives of those I work with. I will work diligently to be a part of the solution.
"Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received-only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage."-Saint Francis of Assisi

Sometimes winter can make you feel like you’ve been cooped up forever! Here are some fun activities to keep the family busy, and keep
the cabin fever at bay.
Craft it Up!o Grab your scissors, glue, tape, and glitter
to create some kid friendly crafts to use around the house.
Movie Marathon:o Rent all of your favorite childhood movies and
introduce them to your kids for a fun, nostalgic afternoon.
Build a Fort:o Grab your blankets, pillows, and lanterns and
build yourself a nice comfy fort
Bake!o Take out your favorite family recipes, warm up the
oven, and get to work baking and creating!
Go on a Winter Hike:o Embrace the colder weather and see the outdoor
beauty that the winter has to offer, all while working on your fitness.
Go to a Winter Festival:o Research activities and festivals in your area to get
you out of the house and out in the community!

As we move further into winter and the family fun moves outdoors, there are a few safety tips to keep in mind:
Dressing for the Cold:• Eat a snack before going outside. The extra calories will give your body
energy in the cold weather.• Protect your face with sunscreen. Even though the idea of a sunburn in
January may seem odd, the snow can reflect up to 85% of the sun’s UV rays.
• Dress in layers. If the top layer gets wet, you can peel off some clothes until you get down to a dry layer.
• The rule of thumb for older babies and young children is to dress them in one more layer of clothing than an adult would wear in the same conditions.
Frostbite Facts:Kids are at a greater risk for frostbite than adults, which is why dressing them appropriately is so important. Frostbite happens when the skin and outer tissues become frozen, and it occurs most often on fingers, toes, ears, noses, and cheeks. Frostbitten skin may appear white, yellowish-grey, or may have blisters. If this happens, place all frostbitten parts of the body in warm (NOT HOT) water. Do not rub the affected areas. After a few minutes, dry and cover up with clothing and/or blankets, and call your doctor.

According to the "Guinness Book of World Records," the biggest snowflake on record occurred in Montana in 1887. It was eight inches by 15 inches.
The record for the most snowfall in a 24 hour period in the United States happened in Silver Lake, Colorado in 1921. During that 24 hour period, six feet and four inches of snow fell--which is the height of a very tall man!
The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth was -128 degrees. The temperature was measured on Antarctica in 1983.
Q: How many months have 28 days?A: All 12 months!
Q: I’m tall when I’m young, and short when I’m old. What am I?A: A candle
Q: What has hands but can’t clap?A: A clock
