It’s been a great first half for the Chal-dean Chamber as 2016 has yielded a plethora of successful events, initia-tives and new opportunities. Given the perpetual support and generosity from members such as you, the Chamber continues to be the premier organi-zation for planning and economic development in the Chaldean com-munity. We take tremendous pride in serving you as we realize our success is predicated upon the high caliber of members that we represent.

As we enter into the next quarter of this year, we have much to be proud of. The year is only half way gone and we’ve already hosted multiple success-ful networking events, luncheons, town hall meetings and career fairs. In particular, this year’s Thirteenth Annual Awards dinner stood second to none as we honored one of Time Magazine’s most influential people in the Country, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha and the General Motors dealers of the year, Bas and Tanya Robin. The annual gala was a sold-out success and attracted more than 900 corporate, civic and community leaders.

In addition to the Chamber’s success, we are elated to announce that since open-ing its doors more than seven months ago, the new Chaldean Community Founda-tion center has helped meet the needs of thousands and is on track to service more than 20,000 individuals by the end of this year. Thanks to the support of our spon-sors, volunteers, members and donors, those in need have been given a new creed of hope and a chance at a “New Life in a New Land.”

While we are proud of our recent accomplishments, we realize that there is still room for improvement and more work to be done. For the remainder of the year, we will be working to provide more networking opportunities and educational forums to aid your business. We look forward to launching new initiatives that bring increased benefit and value to your membership.

In closing, we thank you for your partnership and for granting us the privilege to serve. We are grateful for the contributions that you have provided both the Cham-ber and Foundation. Great Networking and Business at this Year’s Industry Outlook!The Chaldean American Chamber of Com-merce hosted its biannual Industry Outlook on February 18. The event took place at Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield with nearly 100 guests in attendance. Deputy Oakland County Executive Matthew Gibb and State Representative Klint Kesto served as the event’s keynote speakers. During their interactive presentations, Mr. Gibb highlight-ed business techniques utilized by Oakland County to survive the economic recession and strategies implemented to attract international corporations. In addition, Mr. Gibb encour-aged guests to personally contact him with any potential business proposals and opportu-nities within the county.

Representative Kesto provided guests with information on business opportunities in the State of Michigan. He also explained how he’s

been able to advance constituent concerns and issues leveraging initiatives set forth by the Oakland County Executive.

More than 100 Members attend Quarterly Networking MeetingIn January, more than 100 Chamber Members gathered at the new state-of-the-art Chaldean Community Foundation center to mingle with fellow industry leaders for the CACC Quar-terly Networking Meeting. During the event, professionals from an array of occupations networked and were given the opportunity to tour the innovative 11,500 square-foot facility.

CACC hosts Congressman Dave TrottThe CACC was honored to host U.S. House Representative David Trott in February. Con-gressman Trott serves on the powerful foreign affairs committee and one of the leading advocates in helping label the atrocities being committed by ISIS against Christians and other minorities a genocide.

Multiple Business and Professional Connections Made During CACC Speed Networking Event The CACC hosted its bi-annual Speed Net-working event at Emagine in Birmingham. Industry leaders from a variety of professions gathered to build relationships and expand their professional networks. During the intimate gathering, guests made a variety of business and professional connections with individuals in varying occupations in a new non-traditional way.

Michigan’s Senate Majority Leader meets with Chamber and FoundationArlan Meekhof, Michigan’s Senate Major-ity Leader visited the Chaldean American Chamber and Chaldean Community Founda-tion office in Sterling Heights to learn more about the Foundation’s programs and efforts to acculturate New Americans. In addition, Senator Meekhof discussed Michigan’s busi-ness climate and described what legislators are doing to help advance local businesses.

CYPN Takes Exciting “Better Made Snack Foods” TourMembers of the Chaldean Young Professional Network were given the privilege to experience and tour the Better Made Snack Foods (BMSF) factory in Detroit. During the interactive tour, partici-pants were given front row seats to the creation and production of their delicious potato chips. In addition, everyone was provided tasty treats to take home and enjoy courtesy of Better Made. A spe-cial thank you to BMSF President Mark Winkelman for hosting the tour and sharing his knowledge.


Chamber and Foundation Host U.S. Special Advisor Knox ThamesThe Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and Chaldean Community Foundation were honored to host Knox Thames, Special Advisor to U.S. Presi-dent Barack Obama for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South/Central Asia. During his visit to the Foundation’s office, Mr. Thames discussed issues pertaining to the recent U.S. Department of State determination on the genocide committed against Chaldean and other minorities. The discus-sion also included humanitarian aid and protection of Iraq and Syria’s vulnerable minority populations. A special thank you to Congressman David Trott for coordinating the meeting and advocating for the community at the highest levels of government.

CACC Provides Cultural Competency to Level One BankIn April, Chamber President, Martin Manna con-ducted a cultural competency training for team members of Level One Bank. During the training, staff members were provided an in-depth overview of Chaldean history, culture and demographics.

CYPN host Renee Lossia Acho for CEO DinnerThe Chaldean Young Professionals Network hosted real estate agent, Renee Lossia Acho of Hall & Hunter Realtors for the “CYPN CEO Dinner” at Shenandoah Country Club. Guests were given the opportunity to actively engage with Renee in an intimate setting while learning her inspiring story and tips for success.

As a realtor, Renee emerged quickly as an indus-try leader using her skillful and creative methods for marketing and sales. Consistently exceeding $30 million in sales annually, she rapidly became a Top Producer. She has been an area Top Producer for over 7 years. Her production ranks her in the top 1 percent of realtors nationally.

CACC Hosts Congressman Jeff FortenberryThe Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce hosted a community meet and greet for U.S. House Rep-resentative Jeff Fortenberry. Congressman Fortenberry traveled to Michigan to meet the community and discuss his proposed Christian genocide legislation. The Congressman is the co-chair of the Middle-Eastern Minorities Caucus and one of the community’s strongest advocates.


Justice for Emil The CACC is happy to report that Justice has finally been served for the family of Emil Salem. The man who murdered the Clinton Township party store owner in March of 2015 pleaded no contest to first-degree murder in criminal court, for which

he will spend the rest of his life in prison. Our prayers are with the Salem family during this bittersweet moment as we pray for their continuous strength and healing.

Foundation Hosts U.S. Senator Gary PetersThe Chaldean Community Foundation was honored to host U.S. Senator Gary Peters at the Chaldean Community Center! The Senator took time out of his busy schedule to meet with staff and clients while learning more about the work of the Foundation. During his visit, Senator Peters toured the new facility and discussed the ongoing issues in the Middle East and possible solutions. We appreciate the Senator’s advocacy for the Chaldean community in Michigan and Abroad.

CCF Town Hall A Great Success!In March, the Chaldean Community Foundation in partnership with the Chaldean American Association for Health Professionals hosted a town hall meeting on Preventive Health Care and Community Health. The event attracted more than 80 guests who participated in the inter-active community forum. During the event, guests were given the op-portunity to consult with physicians and receive answers on a variety of health and wellness concerns.

Yvonne E. Nona Scholarship FundMuch appreciation to the Nona family for entrusting the Chaldean Community Foundation with the Yvonne E. Nona Scholarship Fund. The $250,000 en-dowed gift will support scholarships for women in our community.

CCF Hosts Career Fair for EngineersThe CCF hosted its first bi-quarterly Career Fair for En-gineers! More than 35 skilled individuals attended and were given the chance to connect with employers while explor-ing available career opportuni-ties in the field of engineering.

Foundation participates in Annual Cultural ExchangeThe Chaldean Community Foundation participated in the City of Sterling Heights 15th Annual Cultural Exchange to provide citizens with a broader understanding on the Chaldean Community. During the event, CCF staff and volunteers assisted more than 1,000 residents in attendance!

Chamber Mourns the loss of John LoussiaFormer chamber Director and advocate in launching the De-troit Independent Grocers, John Loussia passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. Loussia was the Chamber’s 2014 Business Person of the Year and active in many communities throughout the Metro Detroit area. In his honor, the family has entrusted the Chaldean Commu-nity Foundation with the “John Loussia Cancer Fund” to support those dealing with medical ex-penses caused by cancer.


U.S Citizenship and ESL Classes Commence U.S. Citizenship classes are underway at the new community center! Close to 40 students took their first step towards naturalization. In addition, the CCF hosted its first English as A Second Language (ESL) class inside the brand new community cen-ter! Thus far, eight students have completed their level 2 ESL course and will be continuing their education by taking credit courses at Macomb Community College. We look forward to hosting many more classes throughout the year and pro-viding quality education to our community.

Project Bismutha Wins Hometown Hero Award!Chaldean Community Foundation affiliate Project Bismutha received the 2016 Hometown Health Hero award! This award recognizes individuals and organizations across the state working tirelessly to maintain and improve the health of their local communities. A special thanks and appreciation to the Michigan Public Health Week Partnership for bestowing us with this prestigious honor.

Breaking Barriers host Valentine’s Day EventThe CCF’s Breaking Barriers program held a Valentine’s Day Party hosted by the St. Joseph WINGS group. More than 200 guests were in attendance! Families enjoyed food, entertainment and fun. A special thank you to DJ Nathan for providing music during the event.

A sell-out crowd of over 900 civic, corporate and community members set the stage for one of the premier galas in Southeast Michigan. For the 13th year in a row, members and friends gathered for a special evening celebrat-

ing the Chamber’s 13th Annual Gala. Thanks to our good friend and emcee for the night Charlie Langton, guests were both entertained and engaged throughout the evening’s special program.

Building upon the night’s excitement were the heart felt welcomes and speeches of several dignitaries, including His Excellency Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim, U.S Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters and Congressman Dave Trott. In addition, the dinner was graced with the presence and participation of elite dignitaries such as Iraq’s Ambassador to the U.S., Lukman Faily; Iraq’s Consul General, Al Manhal Alsafi; Mother Superior of the Chaldean Daughters of Mary Immaculate Conception, Sister Philip Kirma; Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, State Representative Klint Kesto and many others.

It’s not every evening you have the privilege to honor the General Motors Deal-ers of the Year and one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the country. Power couple Bas and Tanya Robin captivated the audience as they outlined their humble journey to success while Dr. Mona inspired us all with her motivating and courageous story. The caliber of our honorees were second to none as all three serve as living testaments to the true essence of the Chaldean community.
