No Flies on Us Last week, students in Years 5 and 6 walked down to the old Bowling Club to participate in a community program aimed at learning about fruit flies and how they, as students, can play a part in protecting our local fruit growing industry. Hosted by the Lion’s Club of Tocumwal and its members, our children made a fruit fly trap each for themselves to take home. It looked like a lot of fun.

Welcome to our School I would like to welcome our newest member of staff to Tocumwal Public School. We have Mrs. Maryanne Ryan who was successful in obtaining a Teacher’s Aide position through merit selection for the next 12 months. Maryanne comes to us with a wealth of experience of working in a school environment. Maryanne has a great understanding of the processes that occur on a daily basis in schools. She has made a wonderful start to our school and we look forward to having her as part of our school community.

Western Riverina AFL Trials We wish Brock Bear, Hunter Hardwidge, Kane Wardlaw, Joe Barker and Jackson Bury all the best of footballers luck as the join the rest of the Finley District AFL team to play in the Western Zone AFL trials on Thursday March 22nd in Leeton NSW. The Finley Zone team will play against other Western Riverina Zones throughout the day. At the end of the day a Western Riverina Team will be selected to attend a further selection trial against the Eastern Riverina team. From here students will be selected to play in the Riverina AFL team to compete in the NSW PSSA State AFL Carnival.

Easter Hat/ Lunchbox/Basket Parade and Raffle Next Thursday 29th April during afternoon assembly (2:30pm) students are invited to bring or wear to school an Easter hat/ bonnet. All participating students will parade their Easter hat/ bonnet/ in front of the school in the assembly area while dancing to their class’s selected song. We will not be having a normal assemblyduring the parade. We will draw the P&C Easter Egg raffle after the parade.

Work Experience This week we have the pleasure of hosting past student Sarah Gillespie as part of her High School Year 10 work experience program. Sarah from St Mary’s, Nathalia is here to enjoy her experience and to help out. We know she will have a great time while she is here helping out Year 2. It is wonderful to have students return and see how much they have matured. Nitbusters Day On Monday we had our first “Nitbusters” Day for the year. It was a successful day with local hairdressers Jayde from Lush and Bec from Rusties giving up their time to do our checking. A big thanks also to our P&C members Kim Sutton, Leonie Dawes and President Vanessa Bury for their time to process the return notes home. We will do the follow up day in Term 3. Thank you to our parents who have supported this P&C/NSW Dept. Health initiative. P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held tonight 21st March at 7:00pm in the school library. We would love for you to join us.

School Fees Attached to Newsletter in Week 3 was the 2018 School Fee contribution form. This also takes into account the cost of text books and consumables. It also has the option to buy a Riversider (School Magazine 2018) at a reduced price at the start of the year. It would be appreciated if you could return the form to the school office with your payment promptly. We thank you in advance for your contribution. Wearing Riverina Apparel to School It is wonderful that our students experience the highs of representing their zone at Riverina Regional carnivals and events. It is a great opportunity to buy some merchandise from the clothing stands etc… However, these articles of clothing (including shorts, shirts and jumpers) are not the school uniform and should not be worn to school in the place of the school uniform. The only time a student may wear Riverina apparel to school will be the next school day immediately after they attend the Riverina event. At no other time is it to replace school uniform. NB. The only exception is that Riverina socks may be worn at any time. Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government School in 2019 Students in Year 6 have received an information guide and expression of interest form for parents and carers. Regardless of where your child may be attending next year could all parents return the completed sections relevant to their intentions on or before Friday 23rd March. We are only waiting on a couple to be returned. Thank you.

Lego Robots At the end of last year our

school invested a significant amount of money in the

purchase of Lego EV3 kits. The kits allow students to design, build and program robots! When working with the EV3 kits, students work

collaboratively whilst thinking critically and creatively to solve real world problems. Year 6 have been learning

the ins and outs of the kits in the last month and are

having a blast!
