  • March 2013: Welcome to the Neighborhood

Well before we moved from our short-term apartment to a longer-term residence, we began praying for

our new neighbors, wherever they would happen to be. We didn’t know their names, of course, but we

knew God did. We prayed that He would lead us to neighbors who were open to friendship with a foreign

family that can barely speak their language.

Almost immediately after we settled into our new place, we knew that God had answered our prayers. Our

neighbors—especially one of the families right next to us—have welcomed us into their circle. We know

this is the country, city, district, neighborhood, street, and even house that God has had in mind for us at

this time. Now that we know our neighbors, we still pray for them—but now we pray for them by name.

We don’t know that we’re the first followers of Jesus to pray specifically for this family, but we could be.

What a privilege, and what a sobering reality as we contemplate our task of making disciples in this city.

    We Need Your Prayers

Thank you for your commitment to pray for us. Remember the words of Oswald Chambers: “Prayer does

not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” Here’s how you can pray for us this month:

Please remember our next-door neighbors, a couple with children. The wife is open to spiritual things,

and she and her son went to church with us a few weeks ago and plan to visit again. Their major

concern now is their daughter’s university-entrance exams, which are the most important factor in

university placement for students. The wife has asked us to pray that her daughter’s exams will go well.

Please pray for wisdom as we weigh schooling options for our children for next year. Tuition at their

school is increasing sharply, and we are praying about the various alternatives. One possibility is

homeschooling; if we go in that direction, we would like to recruit a homeschooling teacher/coordinator

so we can keep our focus on learning Turkish.

Please pray for financial provision for our work. Pray that God will prompt givers to give so we have the

resources we need to do the work He has called us to.

Please pray for more workers. Please remember our friends and

teammates who are raising support and plan to join us later this year.

And ask the Lord of the Harvest to send even more laborers.

Thank you for your faithfulness in praying and giving. It’s a privilege to

partner with you in proclaiming Jesus among those who have never heard.

    Grace and peace to you,

    Mike, Nikki & Family
