Evaluating: How Useful Letters & Emails are for Research Purposes?

A letter or email can be a very good method of gathering information for a project. You will now complete a sorting activity with a partner were you will categorise a number of statements under two headings; Advantages of letters & emails and Disadvantage of letters & emails.

Letters & emails are simple and cheap to create and send.

Sometimes letters and emails may not get a response.

Both methods are good for getting answers to straightforward, direct questions.

Waiting on the return of your letter can take time.

Taking the time to write a letter or email is personal and more likely to get a response.

The respondent may not fully understand your questions and not give a clear response.

Emails are a very quick method of communication.

You might not get direct responses to your questions, rather just leaflets that are not useful.

Writing personally to a person or organisation could result in the return of lots of useful information.

considering writing a letter to gather evidence for their investigation.
