Throughout history we have fought against heavy floods and
severe winters, but we continue to develop our minds through the
principles of “diligence”, “faithfulness” and “temperament of the
enterprise”.
In the middle of the Edo Period, the pharmaceutical industry was
developed here in Toyama. The Toyama medicine peddlers
traveled all over Japan, employing a unique business style known
as “SENYOU-KOURI”. Thanks to them, Toyama City remains well
known to many people as a town of medicine.

The “OMOIYARI Committee” module began by asking the
delegates to separate into groups based on selecting the color
they think makes them feel the happiest. Once in their groups,
the delegates explained why they chose that color. After
completing this activity, each group decided what color best
represents the idea of world peace. .
Participants then joined their voices and sang “Happy
Birthday” for all who were celebrating birthdays in the coming
days. These activities brought the delegates closer and set a
pleasant, harmonious tone for this OMOIYARI session. This
module also included a team building exercise using wire, duct
tape, chairs, paper imitation, and toy cars. The object of the
activity was to build a strong bridge out of the provided
materials. All of the delegates spread out across the room to
start the project. The conditions for the bridge project required
it to be three meters long, 30 centimeters wide, and more than
45 centimeters tall within the building time limit. This
challenged the delegates to consolidate various ideas and
opinions to work together efficiently. Some delegates also
struggled with a language barrier, making communication
more difficult. The project focused on patience, respecting
others’ thoughts and ideas and teamwork. About 15 teams
participated in the challenge and 70% of the teams successfully
built a strong bridge by consolidating multiple good ideas and
perspectives into cohesive strategic actions.
