our speaker for the day. Meadows Museum is called the “Prado of the

Taste for Spain” will run until January 2020. The new collection is from the Bowes Museum in County Durham, UK. It is home to the largest collection of Spanish painting in the British Isles from the second half of the nineteenth century and was opened in 1892. Dr. Mark Ro-glan, curator of the Meadows and adjunct pro-fessor at SMU of Art History present a large section of paintings from the exhibit by slide

with details and explanations of the artist and style of painting and importance. The Bowes Museum has over 55,000 objects and painting from the Victorian Era. Dr. Roglan, highlighted Juan de Borgona (1470-1534), El Greco, Mirando and Goya.

El Greco was known as a “Mannerismist” and painted during the counterreformation movement with depiction of the soul with so-ber colors and long out of portion hands and fingers. The priests and those in authority wanted more story telling pictures to depict the bible. He was not understood and forgot-ten until being rediscovered during the Ren-aissance. Maino was one of the first to use real people as models.

Goya was a painter and art teacher but after becoming deaf had to give up teaching. His use of back light or light from above was his hall mark. At age 81, Goya created one of his best paintings of his grandson at the age of 18. The museum is very proud of the quali-ty and depth and breathe of it permanent col-lection of paintings, drawings and sketches.

In closing Dr. Roglan encouraged us to study fine art and develop and train our eye. Get up close at museum to appreciate the amazing skill, talent and vision of an artist.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

The trouble in corporate America is that too many people with too much power live in a box (their home), then travel the same road every day to another box (their office).

~ Faith PopcornThe more I know about business, the more I'm convinced that it is conducted in homes and churches far more than in office buildings.

~ Laura MoncurThe brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office.

~ Robert FrostLove has no place in a lawyer's office. ~ Elizabeth AstonThere are no office hours for lead-ers. ~ Cardinal James GibbonsTo be turned from one's course by men's opinions, by blame, and by misrepresentation shows a man unfit to hold an office.

~ Quintus Fabius MaximusThere is one person in charge of every office in America and that person is Charles Darwin.

HE WHO LAUGHS, LASTS A college student challenged a senior citi-zen he was sitting next to on a bus.
