GOOD evening to everyone attending tonight’s match at Love Lane, including the players, officials and sup-porters from Bemerton and the match officials.
It’s been a while since I had to write some pro-gramme notes and it partly feels like a lot has hap-pened since I last wrote in the programme but in some respects it also feels that not much has happened.
We haven’t had a home game in almost a month and with two weekends without any action due to the weather during that period too, it doesn’t seem like we have played many matches in the last month or so.
Now we have two home league games in a week and both tonight’s game and Saturday’s encounter with Fawley are absolutely vital to our chances of being able to win the league title.
A maximum six point return is what is needed to en-sure we don’t allow the chasing pack to have a chance of catching us in the closing weeks of the season but these won’t be easy matches.
Off the field you will notice one or two changes since your last visit to Love Lane. I won’t elaborate on these too much at this stage but some of the new facilities we have had to install in the past few weeks will be available for supporters to use this evening.
There are lots of rumours and tales circulating about the ground grading process involving clubs from the Wessex League, which we as a club will not be commenting on.
However, I can assure supporters that all of the things we need to have in place to be able to be considered for Ryman/Southern League football are in hand and on course to be completed by the FA’s deadline of March 31.

MANAGER’S notes
I’D LIKE to welcome Bemerton to Love Lane for this evening’s Wessex League Premier Division encounter.
Both teams played each other only a few weeks ago in the League Cup semi finals at Alresford Town’s ground.
We came through the game in the end but Bemerton made life very difficult for us, holding us to a 0-0 draw at half time and then tak-ing the lead early in the second half.
We managed to power our way to victory with four goals in the end but we must be ready for another tough encounter this evening and we will have to be at our very best to ensure we pick up another three points.
I’m pleased to have been able to add Joseph Briggs to our squad.
He made his debut for Peters-field last season in Division 1 but his first game back with us was at Totton last Tuesday.
He showed the quality he can bring
to the team that night and there is plenty more to come from him.
It was good to get back to winning ways at Totton and Eling last Tuesday night. Despite them being bottom of the table it is no easy place to go as Win-chester and Moneyfields will tell you.
But we took control of the game with an early goal and we didn’t look back
from there. It was pleasing to have Warren
Hunt back from suspension and for him to score in his first game back as well.
We are in a crucial stage of the season now, still leading the division and with two cup finals to look forward to.
However, our approach remains the same. We only look at the next game coming
up and we need to keep our concentration and focus
working like that.Play the next game, hopefully
win it and only then look at the next one coming up.
Please keep giving us your fantastic support.
All the best.
Sus
Our approach remains the same – focus only on the next game coming up...

RAMS news round-upYoung Rams star earns a move to Premier LeaguePETERSFIELD Town’s young star Ed Dryden is on his way to the Premier League after signing a contract with Stoke City.
The 18-year-old impressed the Potters during a week on trial with the Midlands club and also during three appearances with their under-18s side against Derby County, Everton and Bolton Wanderers.
The midfielder has signed a 15 month contract with the Premier League outfit and moves to the Midlands club immedi-ately.
While he is disappointed to lose one of his key players, Petersfield Town man-ager Ian Saunders was delighted by the news about Dryden.
He said: “I’m really pleased for the lad. Stoke have been very impressed with him and that reflects well on both his family and on our football club.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Ed and I have every confidence in him that he will go up there and be a success at Stoke.
“He came into our club last season and played for the youth team and reserves, gaining some valuable experi-ence as he moved up through the ranks to the fringes of the first team squad.
“He made his first team debut in the FA Cup in August and hasn’t looked back since. He has played superbly for us all season and when you take that into con-sideration, it is no surprise that he has attracted the attentions of not just Stoke City but a whole host of clubs who have watched him this season.
“It shows as well the kind of players we are attracting to Petersfield and we have plenty more young, talented players who have the ability to come through and
attract the attention of bigger clubs.“It also shows players that clubs from
the very top league in the English game are looking at this level of football for players, so if things have not worked out at another club young players should consider playing in the Wessex League, gaining experience and catching the attention of a pro club to earn their move back up the levels.”
During his youth football days, Dryden had a trial with Premier League leaders Chelsea and he has also been on the books of Aldershot Town.
Speaking about his move, Dryden said: “It’s all happened in a bit of a whirl-wind it feels like to me – I’m still surprised it is all happening but it is very exciting to be joining Stoke City.
“After my trial at Chelsea and my time at Aldershot Town I’d forgotten really about having a career as a professional footballer but it is all coming back to me now and it is really exciting.
“I’ve enjoyed all of my time at Peters-field Town. Working my way up through the youth team and reserves last season and playing for the first team this season.
“I have learnt something from every one of my team mates – they have all given me something which has helped me to get where I am now and they have all been great with me.
“My hope is now that the Rams go on to win the Wessex Premier Division title and win the two cup finals they are in to complete the treble – and I hope to be able to get back and watch as many of their remaining games as I can.”
Details of what Petersfield Town will receive in return for the transfer are still to be announced.

BEMERTON Heath Harlequins were formed in May 1989 with the amalga-mation of two men’s clubs, senior side Bemerton Athletic and Sunday side Moon FC, and one boys club, Bemerton Boys.
All three clubs were previously very successful in their own right and were a major force in local football.
Bemerton Athletic won the Wilts League on three occasions.
Moon FC consistently won honours in the Salisbury and Andover Leagues and Bemerton Boys won several trophies in the Burbage and Mid-Wilts Leagues.
The Bemerton Athletic and Moon FC were, by the end of 1988 looking for a fresh challenge.
Therefore provisional talks of a merger were held with an entry into the Wessex
League the number one priority. It’s history now that the talks were suc-
cessful, Bemerton Heath Harlequins were formed and now operate from a magnifi-cent clubhouse which was mainly built by self help.
Since the merger, the club have es-tablished themselves as a major force in the Wessex League and Wyvern League, and winning countless cups with all age groups at county and league level.
The Weston Way ground continues to be improved every year with the help of everyone at the club, providing one of the best facilities in the area.
Bemerton won an award from the Football Association for steps five and six in the country for best Groundsman in 2008-09.
Since their merger, Bemerton have kept on developing

Action from the game against Brockenhurst.
10 19
Petersfield Town 5Brockenhurst 0
PETERSFIELD Town showed their class and why they are leading the way in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division with this impressive victory.
The heavy pitch, which cut up from the first whistle, was not conducive to playing passing, flowing football but the Rams still attempted to play in their usual style and for the majority of the game they managed to do so.
This result shows why they are being touted as the champions elect by some Wessex League pundits as some of the goals scored while the opposition were slipping and sliding around were simply sensational.
Neither side was able to get a foot-hold in the game nor on the pitch in the opening exchanges as the steady heavy drizzle made conditions for the players progressively worse.
The first chance fell to Petersfield around the quarter hour mark when a cross into the middle of the box gave Andy Todd a free header on goal but he put his effort well over the top.
On 19 minutes Danny Thompson whipped in a cross from the right which skidded up off the sodden turf, hit Jacques Bernard and nearly flew straight past Brockenhurst keeper Sam Cousins but he got a hand to the ball.
On 22 minutes Ash Howes picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and fired off a shot which took a deflection to win a corner. From this corner kick from the right, Todd’s header was cleared off the line, Dryden’s follow up was tipped on to the crossbar by Cousins but Todd reacted quickest to the rebound and his overhead
kick sent the ball flying into the net.Todd then had what looked like a
perfectly good goal disallowed. From an-other corner from the right he outjumped everyone to send his header in off the underside of the crossbar but the referee ruled that he had fouled a defender when jumping for the ball.
The Rams doubled their lead three minutes before half time with a real goal of the season contender. They tried a number of times to break down the left from midfield but the ball was eventually passed inside to Howes who had plenty of space. From 30 yards out he hit a shot which was flying into the net from the mo-ment it left his boot.
Petersfield got their third goal seven minutes into the second half when the home side again moved the ball well up the left wing. A deep cross found Todd unmarked at the far post and although Cousins got a strong hand to his header he couldn’t prevent it bouncing behind him and into the net.
The Rams made it 4-0 on 64 minutes when a cross from the left found Thomp-son and his bullet diving header back across goal sent the ball flying into the far corner.
With nine minutes remaining Brock-enhurst went the closest they had come to scoring in the whole match. A free kick 25 yards out was curled towards goal by Mark Barker and his effort forced Matt Shortt to dive to his left to push the ball to safety.
With three minutes remaining the Rams completed the scoring when substitute Robbie Tambling’s downward header from a corner on the left found the back of the net.
Rams show title credentials in difficult conditions to win

EVERY programme this season will fea-ture a story from the files of the Peters-field Post – Petersfield Town FC’s official media partner.
Today we go back to March 3, 1982, and a report on Petersfield United’s 2-1 win against BAT in the Hampshire League Division 2.
Petersfield were top of the table but they hadn’t won a home game for three months until this victory.
Robin Sykes was missing due to work commitments but United welcomed back into the team top scorer Peter Dore, who had recovered from a bout of flu.
Petersfield took the lead after 11 minutes when Owen McCartney slipped the ball to Ernie Turrell and he chipped the ball over keeper Hastings’ head and into the net.
BAT drew level on the half hour mark against the run of play when a throw in caught out Angus Steel and Steve Mar-shall and Gattral nipped in to head home past Richie Damerell.
Petersfield had plenty of other chanc-es to score. Dore and Owen McCartney both drew fine saves from Hastings and in the second half Turrell also went close.
John Pain’s scorching shot went just over the crossbar before United got themselves in front again after 67 minutes. Eddie Bentley latched on to a pass from Pain and hit home a low, right footed shot into the net.
Johnny Goater had the best chance to extend that lead further but his header went over.
This win over title challenging BAT kept Petersfield well clear at the top.
Folland Sports 2 Petersfield Town 4
PETERSFIELD Town were left in a dreamland position as far as promotion goes at the top of the Wessex Premier Division after grabbing another solid vic-tory against top six opposition.
The Rams have now come through a run of games where they have played all of the other five sides in the top six since the beginning of January and the five games brought in a haul of nine points af-ter they won two and drew three of them.
But not even in their wildest dreams did any Petersfield follower believe at the end of that tough run they would be lead-ing the division by six clear points and be 12 points ahead of the third placed team.
Folland Sports gave the Rams a tough examination of their promotion creden-tials but again Petersfield’s quality shone through. However, it could have been very different if Folland Sports had taken the chance that came their way in the opening minute of the game when Ryan Long received the ball with the goal at his mercy but he somehow failed to find the target.
The home side were giving Petersfield plenty of room to play in on the edge of the box and Silver exploited that on nine minutes to work some space for himself but his shot sailed well over the bar.
The Rams went ahead on 17 minutes when the ball was played quickly out of defence and into the path of Silver on the left wing. His electric pace took him clear of the defence and he pulled the ball back across goal to Danny Thompson, who tucked the ball home from the edge of the six yard box.
The home side almost equalised three
minutes later when Jamie Barron fired a free kick on goal from 25 yards out. Keeper Matt Shortt managed to fling himself to his right and got a hand on the ball to turn it against the post.
Midway through the first half Peters-field should have doubled their lead when Silver’s pace again proved to be too hot for the home side to live with. He pulled a cross back to Warren Hunt but he sent his header from eight yards out just wide.
The Rams made the perfect start to the second half when they doubled their lead on 52 minutes. A deep ball into the box from the right found Thompson at the far post. He managed to turn it back across the face of goal where firstly Hunt tried to turn it home but he appeared to be pushed to the ground by his marker.
However, Ed Dryden had continued his run from midfield and the ball rolled into his path and he tucked a low shot past the keeper and into the net.
Petersfield went 3-0 up on 73 minutes when the ball was fed to Sean Wain on the left. His low cross found Hunt on the edge of the penalty area and after con-trolling the ball he fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.
The home side pulled a goal back on 86 minutes when the ball ran to Ryan Long on the edge of the area and his low shot seemed to deceive Shortt.
The Rams went 4-1 up a minute later when the ball was worked into the path of substitute Jordan Neal and after having a quick look up he fired in a shot which beat Gosney at his near post.
The home side got their second goal in the final minute of the match when Matt Burt headed a corner from the left into the roof of the net.
No away day blues for Rams as they beat Folland Sports
