Kabi-kabilang mgaNew Year’s resolution
may saysay pa ba?
“’Yong iba nafu-fulfill kotapos ’yong iba continous pro-cess. We cannot attain perfec-tion, we can just aim for conti-nous improvement,” dinagdagni Tangonan.
Iba’t iba man ang atingpananaw tungkol sa New Year’sresolution, pagbabago pa rinang mensaheng hatid nito atmagsisimula pa rin sa atingmga sarili ang pagbabagong ito.Bagong Taon man o hindi, maniwala ka man sa New Year’sresolution o hindi, ang mahala-ga ay bukal sa loob mo angpagbabago na gusto mo at kayamong ayusin ang lahat ng malisa buhay mo. Mahaba man ang
proseso, worth it naman ito.
Ni Badeth Rivera, trainee
A NO ba ang New Year’s resolution?Para saan nga ba
ito? Ang New Year’s resolution ay
Year’s resolution dahil hindi na-man raw ito nasusunod.
And Rome was not builtovernight,” pagpapatuloy niya.
Ayon naman kay Dr. Emily Tangonan, Dean of College of
Arts and Sciences sa PCU at
isang Psychology professor, rele- vant pa naman ito sa ngayondahil kailangan natin ng pag-babago sa ating mga sarili.
“Dapat nagle-level up natayo, nag-iimprove tayo, binaba-go ang bad habits. Because if
you stop improving, you willnot gain success,” ani Tangonan,na sinabing hanggang ngayonay gumagawa pa siya ng resolu-tions para sa kanyang sarili atayon sa kanya, nagagawa na-
man niya ang iba sa mga ito.

In the third Night at the Mu- seum, the displays at the Muse-um of Natural History are slow-ly reverting back to their lifelessstates, and Larry (Ben Stiller)must take the golden tablet tothe British Museum of NaturalHistory to uncover the secret tokeep the magic going, beforethe tablet finally loses its power.Joining him in his quest aremainstays of the series Teddy
Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek),Jedadiah (Owen Wilson), Oc-tavius (Steve Coogan), Atilla(Patrick Gallagher), Sacajawea
(Misuo Peck) and Dexter the ca-puchin monkey.
The all-star cast also includesRebel Wilson who plays Tilly the female night guard of theBritish museum, Ben Kingsley as Egyptian pharaohMerenkahre, and Downton
Abbey star Dan Stevens asLancelot.
The story is bland, thepunchlines even blander—but
somehow Secret of the Tomb isthe most poignant of the threefilms in the franchise. Eachcharacter gets a moment—emo-tionally or comically—that at
least has some sense to theircharacters unlike the misadven-tures in the second film ( Battleof the Smithsonian.) Even previ-ous cast members of the firstMuseum movie—Ricky Gervais,Dick Van Dyke and Hollywood
legend Mickey Rooney get theirmoment before the curtaincalls.
It’s a nice touch, the idea of handing over the tablet to a new
guardian in a new museum thatmakes way for possibly continu-ing the adventures over the At-lantic—the Louvre in Paris isquite near London, who knows? But those adventures will be dif-ferent without Larry and the
original cast of wax (or plastic)museum figures whose exploitshave reached their sunset.
Towards the end of the film,Teddy and Larry share a touch-
ing moment as the two bid eachother farewell. Reading be-tween the lines, Teddy’s wordsring truer as they sound like theactor’s actual last words to hisaudience.
Night at the Museum: S ecret

Night at the Museum: S ecret o f the Tomb Directed by Shawn Levy Rated PG#jesuischarlie
The final installment to the comedic Museum se-ries may be its best. It’s still not truly funny, but Secret of the Tomb has the most adven-
tures and I liked the addition of the live Constella-
tions. It’s also a quaint goodbye to Robin Williams.
Newlyweds’ vacation in afaraway cabin is disrupted
when the bride starts sleep- walking in the woods.
V ILLAGE V OICE’s Zachary Wigon relates: “Achieves emo-tional resonance [by joining]its source of horror with every-day human anxieties.” LOS A N-GELES TIMES’ Robert Abele de-scribes it as a “compact, Cro-nenberg-ian indie.”

Alex Compton: Back to
his Heartbreaker DaysBy Ted Reynoso
ALEX Compton may haveplayed second fiddle to then su-perstar big man Rommel Addu-cul in their teams in the nowdefunct Metropolitan Basketball
Association (MBA), but it washe who used to break the heartsof the opposition and their sup-porters with his game-changingand oftentimes game-clinchingshots, usually booming triples,in crucial games.
Endowed with agood look and a
winsome personality,it is not far-fetchedthat this Philippine-born American whoconsistently saw to ithe had a good look at the basket nomatter what back inthose days, may
have also broken afew young ladies’heart. But that’s anentirely differentmatter, of course.
But then again, his old habit of crushing the heart of the adversary hasnever really left himeven after he hadhung his playingshoes and tried his
luck in mentoring, initially as an assis-tant coach.
Now as headcoach of the Alaska team in thePhilippine Basketball Associa-tion (PBA), Alex has been tak-ing advantage of every opportu-nity to unravel that uncanny knack of pulling the rugs fromunder the opposing teams whenthey least expect it.
His Alaska team has surgedto the PBA All Filipino finals forthe first time in many years by crushing Rain or Shine in thesemifinals.
And his team has sustainedits drive by upending the talland powerful San Miguel Beerin the opener title series.
Alex Compton is indeed back to his heart-breaker days.
Fred Uytengsu has taken achance with Alex, a fledglingpro basketball mentor after longtime head coach Tim Cone de-
cided to try his hands with an-
other franchise ( San Mig Cof-fee whom he piloted to a raregrandslam last season) andCone’s immediate replacementfailed to sustain what the im-petuous American had started
with the team.Uytengsu’s gamble has im-
mediately paid off with Alaskacrashing into the finals of themost important and prestigiousconference of the local proleague, the All Filipino.
Of course, it goes without saying that Alex has much to do with it.
Success nevercame easy as Alex in-
vested time, effort andhuge dose of patiencein instilling not only his system and philos-ophy but rubbing off his winning, heart-
breaker mentality onthe team.
Undeniably Alexinherited a still quiteformidable team
with veteran Sonny Thoss providing ma-turity, steadiness andstrength inside sup-ported by the beastly Calvin Abueva, GabeEspinas (if he ishealthy ) and Sam
Eman. On the wings,he could depend onDondon Hontiveros
with the veteranCyrus Baguio and JV Casio tak-ing care of the backcourt. Alexshored up the squad by takingin another veteran Eric Menk toadd maturity and power in theslot while taking chances withnewcomers Chris Banchero, CrisExciminiano and Vic Manuel.
But whipping this group of tal-ented crop of cagers, most of
whom had seen better days in thepros into a tough, fighting, never-say die team capable of not only competing but turning the tableson the more star-studded, not tomention talent-laden and talleropposition, is something else.
With Alaska, Alex has notonly renewed acquaintance butforge a formidable and poten-tially winning alliance with for-mer MBA rival Hontiveros
And Alex did it in just his first
conference as a full-fledged coach.
