Apart from Lav Di-azs Norte, Hanggananng Kasaysayan and

Adolfo Alix Jr.s DeathMarch in the Un Cer-tain Regard section,Erik Mattis On the

part of the DirectorsFortnight, a noncom-petitive, independent-ly programmed sec-tion that is held paral-lel to the main com-

petition of Cannes.Mattis film, an ac-

tion thriller, featurespopular stars (PioloPascual, Gerald An-derson, Rayver Cruz,Shaina Magdayao,Empress Schuck) and

veteran actors and in-die favorites (JoelTorre, Angel Aquino,

Vivian Velez, JoeyMarquez, Leo Mar-tinez, Michael de

Mesa, Al Tantay andNio Muhlach).

Matti consideredthe film a maindie,a marriage of main-stream and indepen-dent filmmakingstyles. The film is co-produced by MattisReality Entertainmentand Star Cinema, thefilm arm of ABS-CBN.

when we got in, Ilooked up the Direc-tors Fortnight and re-alized that I was inthe company of bignames in Philippinecinema, Matti said.

Matti hopes to at-tend the festival withsome of his actors,

led by Torre, Pascual

and Anderson.He said: Its excit-

ing. Filipino filmmak-ers are doing a good

job. The world will seethe variety of Filipinofilms now: From theabstract to thepoignant, from the hu-morous to the serious.

Martinez is likewiseglad that there arethree Filipino films inCannes this year.There is still hope for

Philippine cinema.Thousands offilms applied. Its dif-ficult to get inCannes. Having threeentries is a big dealfor Filipino cinema,Matti agreed.
