Samantala, sinabi niIloilo Rep. Niel TupasJr. na hindi siya nag-

Kris Bernal’s wish: ThatAljur remain a Kapuso

The Kapuso network openeddoors for him. Now, he’s slam-ming the door on his old studioand wants out. Every actorreaches a point in his careerwhen he feels like he needs achange of scenery.

I have interacted with Aljurseveral times and found him amild-mannered guy. I neverthought he’d be gutsy enoughto defy network rules.

Aljur is getting a lot of flakfor his move. Loyalty and utangna loob (debt of gratitude) aretricky matters. Until when mustcelebrities remain loyal to theirnetwork?

This reminds me of what mylate mom (Inday Badiday)once said when asked about themany stars she helped. Her re-ply: “I just paved the way forthem. The rest was due to theirtalent and determination.”

Aljur’s erstwhile screen part-ner, Kris Bernal, shares her sen-timents on the raging issue.

What was your reactionwhen you heard about Aljur’sdecision?

I was surprised because, inmy opinion, he was given im-portance by GMA 7. I’m alsosad because we may never getto work together again. I knowthat he’s having a tough timenow.

What’s your unsolicited ad-vice to Aljur?

In my opinion, he should fin-ish his contract with GMA 7.Maybe our views and prioritiesare different. I consider my ca-reer a blessing.

What’s your message toAljur’s detractors?

Please give him a break. Itwas not an easy decision tomake. We have no idea whathe’s going through now.

Will you also leave GMA 7someday or stay put?

I do not know what’s in storefor me. I’ll cross the bridgewhen I get there. But for now,I’ll give priority to GMA 7 be-cause this company perseveredin building me up.

Thrilla at Shangri-LaIt was such a thrill to meet

NBA players (Kawhi Leonard,Tyson Chandler, James Hard-en, Terrence Ross, Damian Lil-lard, DeMar DeRozan and KyleLowry) at the grand press conthat PLDT hosted at the EdsaShangri-La Hotel.

I was lucky enough to have aphoto op with the cagers even ifI felt like a dwarf posing besidethem. My endless thanks toPLDT’s bright boy, Gary Dujali, for the once-in-a-lifetime oppor-tunity.

Too bad, the basketball fanswho flocked to the Big Dome towatch the the NBA All-Stars andGilas Pilipinas were not asthrilled as I was.

The much-awaited game didnot materialize. But PLDT hadnothing but good intentions. Itspent a fortune to bring theNBA players to Manila and itwas able to raise funds for Su-pertyphoon “Yolanda” survivorsin the auction of NBA cagers’jerseys and basketballs at thepress con.

PLDT is making sure that allticket holders will get a full re-fund (for info, 09196140865).

The company won’t let theunfortunate incident dampen itsspirit of giving.

THERE is a surge of youngadults—students, first-year workers,mid-managers, and educated urban-ites—that identify themselves as Mil-lennials, those born from 1983through 2002, who are making a hugemark in shaping popular culture andlifestyle today.

In the UnitedStates, authorsWilliam Strauss andNeil Howe first usedthe word “Millennial”to identify this gener-ation as the mosttechnology-bound setof young people. Theyare the multi-tasking,computer-owning, in-stant messaging seg-ment of society thatgrew up in the dawnof the Internet.

In the Philippines,Millennials are asubiquitous as the pas-senger sitting next toyou in an air-condi-tioned city bus.

The Millennial setof behaviours—close-ly linked to their neweconomic power andclose affinity to the

Internet—is distinct, and generally speak-ing, characteristic ofthe fast pace of urbanlife. They are videogame addicts, powersurfers on the net,and selfie producersthat are happily gluedto social media. Theylove to group togetherin coffee shops to tryto solve world hungerand homelessness, and keen on promot-ing clean government.

Though deep inthought and aim, theyalso consume massiveamounts of reality TV;they are updated tothe last detail aboutHollywood and localnetwork stars.
