......2 FACING HUNGER FOODBANK

Dear Friends and Partners,

As I write this letter, it is September of 2019, and I am reflecting on our incredible year of 2018. We are grateful to be able to provide food to those who need us in the times of their need. Sometimes, funding & resources don’t match the demand, but we started strong and finished the year the same way. As a matter of fact, we had quite a year of growth, and that has continued since.

We had an incredible year of accomplishments: we distributed 7,473,292 pounds of food — an increase of almost 18% over 2017! These pounds of food provided 7,092,061 meals to those in need — an increase of almost 22%.

And those extra 1,093,501 meals meant a lot to many who accessed our services for the first time, as well as so many more children who we served through our back pack program and other child hunger initiatives during times that schools were closed for extended periods, in addition to our regular weekly distributions.

We received an expansion of caseload for our Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors 60 and above, now serving over 3,100 seniors. Through our NIP credits, our back pack programming expanded into Logan County, and we are continuing to see growth in partnerships there. We really felt the love and support of our community as we enjoyed great successes with our 2018 events — Empty Bowls & Italiano! Both events had great support and reaching new levels of benefit for our programs.

Our Board of Directors grew and tackled our increasing need for space all the while each making their impact in the community on behalf of the food bank. The leadership of Kathy Hettlinger as Board Chair contributed to many successes and accomplishments, and created a strong foundation when Terry Deppner Hardin transitioned to Board Chair in 2019.

2018 was a great year. We celebrated success and navigated challenges. The changes — both good and challenging led us to where we are today: strong in our vision, our mission and our partnerships. The successes keep coming, and our work continues. Thank you for all you do in partnership with us. I hope that your reflection of 2018 brings reminders of your support of us and the partnership we share. Because … Together, we ARE Facing Hunger!

If I can provide additional information or you want to join our work, call me at (304) 523-6029, x25. Here’s to growth and success — for all of us!

Sincerely,

Cynthia D. Kirkhart, MS, MBA Executive Director

Expenses

Over the past year with your help we have distributed 7.4 million meals to those who are facing hunger.

Our current assets significantly outweigh liabilities, proving our solvency and wise management of credit.

Through our vast network of member agencies, efficient food sourcing practices and program-focused approach to expense management, we provide an outstanding return on investment to donors and the community. As careful stewards of public resources, 95% of our expenses support our programs, with one dollar providing 7.5 meals
