Dear Attendee,

Welcome to CMSA’s 26th Annual Conference & Expo in beautiful Long Beach, California! We have worked very hard to incorporate critiques and suggestions from years past – especially last year’s conference – and hope to far exceed your expectations. To start, our opening night celebration will be a sit down affair, so no long lines at the buffet table while anxiously hoping the food doesn’t run out!

As always, we will bring to you a lineup of speakers that will not only bring you up to speed on the current case management landscape, but will also energize and ignite all the reasons you became a case manager! We have really tried to think outside of the box and showcase new innovations which have had little spotlight historically.

Once again, we have pre and post conference sessions that bring you additional CE opportunities. One of these post-conference sessions offers an inside peek at the new Case Management Core Curriculum. In addition, two of the pre-conference sessions mix excursions with education.

Approximately 230 exhibitors will showcase the latest case management products and services in the Expo Hall from Tuesday night, after our Gala and Recognition Dinner, through Thursday afternoon. We could not hold this conference without the support of our exhibitors and we appreciate them greatly.

It has been an honor to serve as your president of this great association. As an attendee of our Annual Meeting, you will be the first to receive the revised 2016 CMSA Standards of Practice, literally hot off the presses. And believe it or not, there will be more!

As I wind up my two-year term as your CMSA President, I have discovered that every increment of participation, no matter how large or small, always proves invaluable in making the challenges of case management less arduous. Maya Angelou stated, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” I love that and try to live my life by that mantra, and I hope I have exhibited it over the past 2 years as your president.

Gala and Recognition DinnerOur Gala and Recognition Dinner will be quite the event! It will celebrate patient advocacy and recognize our case management leaders, as well as feature a guest speaker, Melissa Thomason. Melissa is an experienced Patient and Family Advisor, and a remarkably passionate advocate who will share a deeply personal story about being diagnosed with a rare connective tissue disorder known as Loeys Dietz Syndrome. She will walk us through the fear and vulnerability of a life-altering illness, the joy and fulfillment of life as a Patient Advocate and the meaning and practice of true “patient and family engagement.”

We’ll close the Gala with our annual presentation of the prestigious CMSA Awards including the Chapter Excellence and Innovation Awards, the Case Management Practice Improvement Award, the Award of Service Excellence, Case Manager of the Year and finally honoring this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Additionally, attending the Gala is the only way to receive a Golden Ticket for the $1,000 cash prize drawing which we’ll announce later that evening in the Expo Hall.

SYMPOSIACMSA’s Lunch Symposia are continuing education sessions that offer enhanced clinical knowledge and comprehensive strategies in major domains of case management for any working clinician within the clinical continuum, regardless of the level of experience. These sessions provide valuable information on some of healthcare’s hottest topics. Sessions will be sponsored this year by Nevro and The Center for Treatment of Paralysis and Reconstructive Nerve Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. You are encouraged to attend and show your support.

All Symposia sessions will take place on Thursday, June 23rd at 12:00p. Tickets are not required. Lunch will be provided and CEs are available. Lunch service will begin at 11:45a.

CEs & CERTIFICATESAfter attending your chosen sessions, you can use any available PC with online access to make your session evaluations. Use the “Session Objectives” section in this book as a resource for the behavioral objectives you will need to evaluate.

Once you’ve completed your evaluations (either at the Evaluation Manager in the registration area or on your personal laptop), you will be able to immediately print your CE certificate, send to your email – or both!
