TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2014 Information
“TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK” is an international design event that gathers the excellent architecture, interior,
product design, graphic design and art from all over the world. Since 2005, the event has been taking place
at Meiji Jingu Gaien Mae in Tokyo and attracting more than 100,000 visitors every year. This year, TOKYO
DESIGNERS WEEK 2014 will be held with 4 main themes—Design, Art, Fashion, Music—and offers more than
20 programs and events for 10 days.

Architectural Models & Project Proposals Exhibition(Special Exhibition)
This exhibition features architectural models and proposals of the projects that the participating architects
were involved in the past. The featuring Japanese architects are, Toyo Ito, Kengo Kuma, Sou Fujimoto and
more. It highlights behind-the-scenes of the projects by world-widely known Japanese architects. Visitors
witness the moments of the architects' vast ideas getting consolidated onto the proposal and visualized for
the first time. This exhibition also aims to inspire architecture students

HOKUSAI MANGA Inspired Exhibition (Special Exhibition)
Starting from the Ito Jakuchu Exhibition held in 2012, TDW Kansei Inspired Exhibition links past and
contemporary creators together. This year we are holding “Hokusai Manga Inspired Exhibition” with works of
a variety of top creators inspired by great artists in history are gathered in this exhibition.
Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), one of the greatest Japanese artists, is the theme for this year’s TDW
inspired exhibition. Hokusai’s works are internationally recognized and strongly influenced Monet, Whistler,
Cezanne, and Van Gogh. He established himself as an influential Japanese painter and his woodblock prints,
"Hokusai Manga" and "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" are known as representative works of Japonism. This
year's TDW Kansei Inspired Exhibition, "Hokusai Manga Inspired Exhibition" gathers works of national and
international top designers and artists, inspired by Katsushika Hokusai.

<TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2012 Ito Jyakuchu Inspired Exhibition>
Ito Jakuchu is one of the great painters of the Edo period (1603-1868) that captured the 'deities' of all beings
and created the 'Colorful Realm of living Beings', which is widely considered one of the supreme masterpieces
of Japanese painting. Creators influenced by Jakuchu's works exhibited their works.
ASIA AWARDS「Young Creator Exhibition」&「School Exhibition」 2014 is the second year for the comprehensive Asian creative award, "ASIA AWARDS". It was established to gather all
young and high-quality creative power from Asia and around the world to the center of Tokyo, attempting to discover
young talents and creating a platform for students and young designers. This year the award includes four categories,
design, art, music and fashion.
Theme:「MY AVANT-GARDE」
The essence of creativity is to step forward. The theme of this year's ASIA AWARDS is 「MY AVANT-GARDE」. Like Beatles,
Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga, we are looking for new creation which changes the society.

designboom mart TOKYO 2014 “designboom mart” has been held for a decade in TDW and has now
become one of the very popular programs. The Italian Design
website, “designboom” selects creators from all over the world.
Visitors can purchase the works of these creators while having
face-to-face conversations.
Future-Lab TOHOKU (Special Exhibition)
Future-Lab Tohoku; a project of Forming International Points of Communication
for Arts and Culture supported by the Agency for the Cultural Affairs (Japan) in
2013 and 2014, holds its special exhibition at this year’s TDW. This creative project
supports the Tohoku area (the affected area by the Great East Japan Earthquake)
through the power of art, music and design. In this special exhibition at the TDW Main Venue, famous
creators from around the world have their workshops and exhibitions.
