With the arrival of Keno and the planned launch of Xpress Sports monitor games this summer, this is anexciting time to be a Pennsylvania Lottery retailer. We’re proud to be able to offer these new games to ourvalued retail partners and loyal players.

As we continue our efforts to increase sales to benefit older Pennsylvanians, i invite retailers to join ouriLottery Retailer Affiliate Program outlined on the cover. iLottery is designed to provide a new type ofplay experience and increase consumer interest in lottery games. Based on data from other states, iLotterywill help to grow sales of traditional lottery games sold in stores. Please join the affiliate program rightaway to share in the profits from players you refer. it’s an opportunity that you won’t want to miss.

One of the best parts of my job is congratulating jackpot winners and the stores that sell those big winningtickets. i had the pleasure of visiting the Speedway in manheim, Lancaster County just days after a ticketsold at that store won Pennsylvania Lottery’s largest prize: a $456.7 million Powerball® jackpot from themarch 17 drawing. i want to thank Speedway and its staff for hosting our media event and thank each ofour retailers for your continued partnership.

The Fast Play category of games has already awarded over $100 MILLION in prizesto nearly 12 million winners across Pennsylvania! Players really love Fast Play games, and particularly those games that offer progressive top prizes. Congratulations to thestores that have sold large progressive top prizes in recent months:

This edition of Tips for Success comes courtesy of Lottery District Sales RepresentativesLisa Varalli, who has more than 13 years of experience working out of the Area1/Philadelphia office, and Kathleen Moore, who has worked out of the Area5/Pittsburgh office for nine years.

“Ask for the sale” is one of the most important Best Practices for retailers. What special things do you do with your retailers to achieve this best practice?

Varalli: i stress that if you do not ask, they won’t play. i try to provide examples tothe retailer on how they could ask for the sale. Things such as informing a player of ajackpot amount and asking how many tickets they would like, or letting them know anew game is now on sale that offers a second-chance drawing.

Moore: i always explain that sales do increase when asking for the sale and go overthis point with them on a continuing basis.

Why is it even more important to ask for the sale whenjackpots are high?

Moore: During high jackpots, asking for the sale is a greatway to engage customers who may not be paying attentionto the jackpot signs or other in-store advertising.

Varalli: After telling players about the jackpot, ask howmany tickets they would like to buy! Also, take theopportunity to cross-sell with other lottery games such asScratch-Offs and Fast Play. i remind all retailers to postjackpot signs on their main doors.

What are your other favorite Best Practices to discuss with retailers?

Varalli: Pay prizes! it not only makes customers happy and keeps them coming back, but it enables them to spend more on products in your store.

Moore: On top of paying prizes and keeping games displayed, i emphasize theimportance of good customer service. i always urge my retailers to smile and befriendly so players have a good experience and will want to come back.

How can retailers be better prepared for your nextstore visit?

Moore: By having your tickets ready and creating a list ofquestions or concerns, we can make the most of our visit. We’ll then have enough time to go over strategies to growsales.

Varalli: i ask my retailers to designate a small area wherethey can place returned tickets, requests for supplies, andnotes with questions. That way, i will still be able to help inthe event that the store’s main contact is not free when istop in. i do not want my retailers to miss an opportunity tohelp them succeed.

Thank you, Lisa and Kathleen, for sharing your tips for success.

Base Cost: $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $10 or $20 per drawing Drawings: Every 4 Minutes (approximately 298 drawings per day) Sales Cuto : 2 seconds before the drawing

Keno is drawn at random from among the numbers 1 to 80. Players try to match up to 10 numbers (known as SPOTS) per draw. The more SPOTS players match, the more they can win (see Prize Levels).

Players must use a playslip to choose numbers for each of their desired SPOTS or select Quick Pick to allow the computer to choose them at random.

Adding the Keno Mul plier op on will mul ply the prize for a winning play depending on the Mul plier drawn (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X). For example, if a Keno play wins $10, the Keno Mul plier op on was chosen at purchase, and the Mul plier drawn was 3X, the player’s prize would be $30. Adding Keno Mul plier triples the total play cost ($1 base play + $2 Mul plier = $3 cket).

Players can also choose to play the same numbers for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 consecu ve draws. The maximum play cost per playslip is $1,200.

Prizes up to and including $2,500 can be validated and paid at any PA Lo ery retailer. Players with winning ckets over $600 must le a claim form. For prizes over $2,500, a standard claim form must be completed and submi ed to Lo ery for payment. Winning ckets may be redeemed up to one year following the drawing date for which they were purchased. Keno ckets cannot be canceled!
