Definition of Acne

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when oil and dead skin cells block the pore opening, causing sebum (oil) to build up inside the pore.

Acne Life Cycle

Stage 1: Clogged Pores. Cells lining pores shed and mix with excess sebum produced by sebaceous glands, forming a plug, which leads to clogged pores.

Stage 2: Bacteria. Accumulated sebum and dead cells attract the P. acnes (or propionibacterium) bacteria naturally found in skin, which feeds on oil and multiplies rapidly inside pores.

Stage 3: Inflammation. This bacterial overgrowth triggers the natural inflammatory response causing swelling and redness. This can ultimately lead to discoloration and scarring.

Because it is both water and fat soluble, it has a greater ability to penetrate the layers of the skin to provide maximum antioxidant protection. Potassium ascorbyl tocopheryl phosphate has also been found to have anti-acne and skin brightening benefits. Vitamin C enhances collagen production and interferes with the chemical reaction that produces the dark spots that blemishes can leave as they heal.

exfoliates to eliminate most blemishes. Beta hydroxy acids provide long term benefits by helping slough off dead skin cells and by speeding up cell renewal processes of the skin. Salicylic acid is lipophilic and, therefore, has an affinity for oils allowing it to penetrate into the pores and break down the plug. Salicylic acid keeps the follicles clear so the pimple forming environment is wiped out.

• Licorice extract (Dipotassium glycyrrhizate) has been found to have good anti-irritant and anti-redness properties. Dipotassium glycyrrhizate, when applied twice daily at the concentration found in the Nu Skin Clear Action™ Toner, will calm skin and reduce the annoying redness that makes acne more obvious.

UsageUse after cleansing. Unlock the pump by twisting the cap counterclockwise. Place a cotton ball on top of the open pump and push down two times. Apply to face and neck area, avoiding contact with eyes. Relock pump by twisting cap in a clockwise direction.
