Why Change?
1ST STUDENT SUCCESS
Moms and Dads don’t want their kids to come home from college and live in the basement on a computer!
Is teamwork and technology Worth it?
• It worked for me.• It has worked for my students.
•Yes
Remember the Goal of this is Student Success
The don’t list…• Don’t ask them to do an activity that you think
is boring.• Don’t put a book online for them to read, when
they already have a book. • Don’t think you can compete with FB.• Don’t make anything that is longer than a few
minutes. Think of how long you will watch a commercial.
Grades
• Fieldwork Assignment completion rates went up from 50% to 60% w/o mobile to 99% w/ mobile.
• Semester long study had the students using mobile technology scoring 8.4 points higher per exam.
Prior and Current Results

Team ActivitiesStudent Teaching Team
• They get put into teams• Develop their own learning game • They teach the other teams.• Later the team compete against each other for
points.
• TAKE AWAY• All of this work is BONUS.
Team ActivitiesCompetitive
• Instructor ALWAYS picks the teams• Use front of class board• Each team has to pick their own name (Starts to
build team unity).• Each team sends a member to the front to answer
3 questions. – 2 yoyo– 1 team helper (engages the entire team)– It’s biology - survival of the fittest, so cheating off the
other teams is encouraged!
Why Let the Students Teach?
• Personal Responsibility Lesson– What did you contribute to the projects?– What could you have done better?– What could be done to make this better (As a
Team)?– Rank Your Take Away.– In your opinion, does one of your team members
need to be fired.
Remember Change is Never Easy
