Pedestrian Gates on Binalong Rd:- the gates are locked atearlier than the advertised 9:30am and unlocked at later than2:30pm for parents to meet their children at school for bell timedue to the safety of some of our more vulnerable students.Gates will be closely supervised by staff members if openedduring the hours of 9:30am-2:30pm. The gates to the carparkneed to remain unlocked during school hours as they are themain entry points for deliveries and emergency vehicles. Nopedestrians should enter via the driveway for safety reasons.

Gate on Fitzwilliam Rd (main entry near office):- This is theonly pedestrian gate open during school hours. All visitors areto report to the office to sign in. We are a trial school fornew method of tracking visitors and it is most important wefollow these guidelines. All other gates on this road are lockedbetween 9.30am and 2.30pm.

We strongly encourage parents and carers to not arrive tooearly or stay on grounds for lengthy periods as you are not partof our contract tracing.

Collecting your child early or from Sick BayCollecting your child early or from Sick Bay

Any person wanting to collect a child from the school must firstsee staff in the K Block Administration. If you require someoneelse to collect your child, you need to inform the office inadvance of their name and mobile number. Their ID must matchthe name you provide.

If your child is in K-2, after obtaining an Early Leaver passfrom the office, you will be asked to collect your child from theclassroom. Students in Years 3-6 will be called to the office tomeet the parent/carer or nominated person.

Late to SchoolLate to School

Children who arrive late to school should report to the office. To ensure students arrive safely we ask parents to walk theirchild to the office and provide an explanation. Late arrivals andleaving early require written explanations. This is necessary forthe safety of your child. Please talk to your child’s teacher ormake an appointment to discuss concerns with me if you havedifficulties in this area.

Remember that students are late will-

Miss important social interactions with friends before schooland set them up positively for the work day ahead.

Miss the morning greetings, messages, roll call, lunch ordersand other morning routines.

Distract others when they arrive and interrupt the momentum ofthe class

Receive unnecessary attention that may make them feeluncomfortable or embarrassed

The school understands that running late can happen on theodd occasion but takes punctuality very seriously.

Road Safety ReminderRoad Safety Reminder

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of theimportance of modelling road safety to our children. Weexplicitly teach our students about road safety but most oftheir learning about road safety comes from what they see andexperience every day. Please ensure you always cross at thelights or a pedestrian crossing. Remind your children to look

both ways before crossing - even if they have the green lightto cross. Please note that there is currently work in progressoutside the IGA to construct a Pedestrian Refuge Island. Pleasecross at the lights while this work is in progress.

Parents are not authorised to park in the school car parks atany time unless provided with permission from the Princial. Weare very fortunate to have good legal parking available – youcan usually park very close to the school.

I wish to thank all our families for their co-operation. Let’s worktogether to create a consistent and supportive approach tostudent safety and wellbeing at our school.

On 6 May 2021, the NSW Department of Education sent anupdate to all schools addressing key changes andannouncements relating to COVID-19. It also served as areminder to all schools that we are to continue followingCOVID-19 guidelines. Please note the following:• Students should not attend school if unwell. Any student withany flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms are to be sent home andshould not return until they have received a negative test resultand are symptom-free. In circumstances where children haveother medical reasons for recurrent symptoms a letter from theirGP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.• All parents, carers and visitors to a school site must be welland symptomfree, comply with sign-in arrangements, and the1.5m physical distancing requirements.• Wearing a face mask is not mandatory for parents and carersvisiting schools.• Staff and visitors to schools should maintain 1.5m distancefrom other people where practicable. Avoid congestion ofgroups of visitors in specific areas where possible.• All visitors to a school site must comply with sign-inarrangements. This includes the requirement to sign the schoolsign-in sheet where they acknowledge that they will complywith the COVID-19 requirements for visitors, contractors andservice providers each time they visit.

Friday Orders for Children in PSSA teams

3

Page 4: Toongabbie Public School eNewsletter

Because the PSSA teams leave for sport before the normallunch time, students who play in these teams and have a lunchorder will need to collect their orders early when they leave forsport.

It is important that when placing orders for kids in PSSA teams, you add the PSSA ALERT to the same order as your child’slunch. This will then place an ALERT on the order label andensure that your child’s lunch is ready early when they need toleave. Please do not create a second order with just this alertas this will not create the alert.

Children who participate in ‘HOME SPORT’ do NOT need toadd the PSSA Alert to Friday orders as they will have their lunchat the regular lunch break.

State of Origin Donut Day.

Orders for this event are now CLOSED. For those who didorder, Donuts will be delivered via the class lunch order basketsat recess on Wednesday 9th June.If you are able to assist us with the preparations on this day, please contact Rhonda in the canteen ASAP

School BandSchool Band

We have started the new term with plenty of action. In Training Band, we are advancing with some challengingtunes from the essential elements books and learning evenmore new notes. They are now in the beginning stages oflearning their first big band piece, ‘Mickey Mouse March’. InConcert Band, we have started some new songs that we arepreparing for some exciting performances later this year. Themain piece we are working on is ‘Drums of Corona’ which iscoming along nicely.

During the Easter Holidays, the incredible Concert Bands kidsshowed their excitement and enthusiasm for band byperforming at the Easter Show. For some of these kids, itwas their first performance for the year (or ever). It can bereally daunting performing in front of people, but everyone didextraordinarily well, and we are very proud of everyone’s workand effort.Last term we also announced the Band Captains for 2021. Tobe a band captain, students must display the following qualities:They must be a good leader and role model to their peers. They are respectful to the teachers and musicians alike. They
