Western Swimming Good luck to our swimming relay team, Lara, Lily, Indy and Daisy who will be competing at Western Swimming this Friday. Thank you to parents for assisting with travel and a reminder that due to COVID-restrictions with high numbers expected on the day, only one adult is permitted to attend with their child.

Narrative Writing Our 3-6 class have been focusing on Narrative writing with Mrs Jenkin and are learning how to write an effective characterisation (description of a key character) in their story writing. Today the class completed a draft characterisation on Mrs Trunchbull (from Roald Dahl’s Matilda.) Daisy shared her work with the K/1/2 class.

Mrs Trunchbull is as horrific and cruel as a peacekeeper. She is a teacher and she carries a cane everywhere she goes. She wears a dark grey army green jumper with a browney maroon belt with a silver buckle. She has her hair up in a tight bun at the perch of her head.

She hates children like they are dirt and has the strength of an elephant or more. She is very large and is the age 55.

Senior Citizen’s Week The school has been invited to sing at the Tooraweenah Senior Citizen’s luncheon on Wednesday 17th March. As the COVID-19 restrictions now allow singing, it is a great opportunity for us to engage in performance.

COVID-19 Restrictions Update NSW Health has agreed to the following activities resuming across all schools in NSW as of Monday 8 March 2021:

• Parents and carers are able to enter school grounds but should continue to follow COVID-safe practices, including physical distancing between adults of 1.5 metres.

• Parents and carers can attend school sporting events. School sporting events should align with requirements for community sporting competitions and training activities in NSW.

• There are no recommended limits on singing groups in schools, including for in-class educational activities such as repetition, chanting, recitation, or singing activities. Five metres is recommended between a group of performing singers and other people, including the audience and conductor, where practicable.

• Dancing activities - including dance classes, formals and social events - can proceed, but organisers should comply with any venue restrictions.

Schools will continue to complete COVID-safe plans for school events where more than 50 adults are gathering.

It is still important that we all continue to remain vigilant in implementing COVID-safe practices in our schools and workplaces. Some level of restrictions and guidelines will remain in place for schools for some time.

There are a number of permission forms for events coming up in the coming weeks. It would be greatly appreciated if notes can be returned as soon as possible.

• Moorambilla • General Permission note (walking excursions, first aid and media permission

Eumungerie Cricket Day Students and Mrs Barry will be travelling by bus to Eumungerie on Friday 19th March. Please bring $4 for a sausage sandwich lunch and pack a hat, drink bottle and recess. Any parents who would like to attend on the day are most welcome to attend.

Film By…

After completing some preliminary professional learning last year, I am very excited to share that the wonderful team from “Film By…” are visiting Tooraweenah on the first days of term 2 to work with teachers on the School Development Day and work on film making with our students including:

• Taking a story to script • Camera angles • Music and sound in film • Editing • Making a short film

All students K-6 will be involved in this opportunity. Films made by students, will be submitted to the “Film By Western Plains” film festival and will give students the opportunity to share films created by other north West schools including Coonamble, Brewarrina, Engonia, Weilmoringle and Lightning Ridge.

Parents are asked to complete the”Film By.. student Participation and Consent Deed” and return to school by Friday 19th March 2021.

Moorambilla Please return your Moorambilla note to school as soon as possible. Returning your note and allowing the school to organise use of your 2021 Creative Kids voucher will give our teachers access to over 100 creative and performing arts lessons aligned with the curriculum and presented by specialists in their field. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to utilise the Moorambilla expertise in our classroom lessons.

Quality Teaching Rounds

Mrs Jenkin and Mrs Hutchison are engaging in a professional learning opportunity with Newcastle University to build capacity for quality teaching through Quality Teaching Rounds. Parents are asked to complete the permission form urgently as this project is getting underway over the next two weeks. Information is attached to the permission form.
