1. E3 – The Gaming Event of the Year
• E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is an annual
convention where the hottest video games of the
year are shown.
• E3 2013 was held on June 11-13 at the Los
Angeles Convention Center.

• Press conferences for Microsoft’s Xbox One, Sony’s
PlayStation 4, Nintendo’s WiiU, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft
and many more were held during this event.
• Each conference showcased a wide collection of
games and services each company would be providing
over the course of the year.
2. Facebook announces Instagram video in
new rival to Vine
• The new feature, titled Video on Instagram,
– will be accessed by an icon on the bottom right corner of the app,
– and you’ll be able to record up to 15 seconds of video,
– using your choice of 13 new filters exclusively for the service.

• In addition to filters,
Instagram has introduced a
stabilization feature called
Cinema.
3. Apple WWDC Keynote 2013: iOS 7,
Mavericks, and more
• Apple hosted its 2013 Worldwide Developers
Conference keynote,
• where they introduced several new pieces of
innovative technology as well as improvements on
current Apple products.

• Chief among them, the debuts
of the wholly-redesigned iOS 7
and OS X Mavericks.
4. MySpace Is Dead. Long Live Myspace
• The new Myspace, which first came online in late 2012 as a music-discovery service with the
support of Justin Timberlake, officially launched to the public this month.
• At the same time, the old capital-S MySpace is no more, departing for that big social network
in the sky (although all user content will still exist on the new site).
• “One artist in particular, Steve Angello, summarized what we were really focused on,”
explains new co-owner Tim Vanderhook.

5. Firefox gets into the smartphone business
• A new smart phone operating system is
joining the fray.

• Mozilla released a phone running its
new Firefox OS in Spain on Monday,
joining leading mobile operating
systems Android and iOS, as well as
smaller players Windows Phone and
Blackberry.
6. Teenager beats tech giants to launch world’s
first smart WATCH that makes calls and comes
with a built-in camera
• A group of college students from India – including a designer
who is just 17 years old – has beaten the likes of Apple,
Google and Sony to launch the world’s first fully featured
smartwatch.
• Called Androidly, the device comes with Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-
Fi and a camera built-in.

• The £150 watch can also be used as a phone to make calls and send texts using a phone
SIM card and packs up to 16GB of storage.
7. Sony’s 6.4-Inch Xperia Z Ultra Can Be Used
Underwater
• Sony announced the Xperia Z Ultra Tuesday during the
Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, a handset that pushes
the limits both when it comes to screen size and
thinness.
• The Xperia Z Ultra is waterproof.

• The phone has an IP55 rating,
making it not only water-resistant,
but enough so that it can actually
be used for things like shooting
video underwater.
8. British Airways testing luggage tags made of
electronic paper
• British Airways has announced plans to
test reusable luggage tags made from
electronic paper.

• Flight information can be transmitted to the
tag via the ticket holder’s smartphone,
using data from the airline app stored after
digital check-in.
• If tests are successful, the tags will launch
in 2014.
9. Square challenges Amazon, eBay with online
marketplace
• Square, the mobile payments startup best known for its credit
card readers, is branching into e-commerce to take on the likes
of eBay and Amazon.
• The company on Tuesday launched Square Market, an online
marketplace that allows merchants to sell their wares online
without the expense of building and maintaining their own sites.

• The marketplace allows sellers to
create a profile, manage their
product listings, and add photos.
• Merchants can then use social
media such as Twitter or Facebook
to alert buyers to deals on the
marketplace.
10. BlackBerry launches Secure Work Space
for Android, iPhones
• BlackBerry officially launched a service late Monday that
allows Apple and Android users to separate personal data
and company information on the same device.
• Managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES),
Secure Work Space creates a container to keep corporate
applications such as e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks
separate from users’ personal apps.

• The service is designed to prevent data
leakage — including copy and paste —
between the Secure Work Space elements
and the rest of the device.
