Boy Scout Troop 353 Eastchester, NY http://troop353.wordpress.com Top 10 Things to Know About * ALL Westchester Putnam Council www.wpcbsa.org 1 Paperwork: All forms (Lander's Liability Release and T Parent Consent & Medical Release Information--both on troop website) & NON-refundable money ($65 troop members or $40 guest MUST be turned in BEFORE departure on 6/26/10. 2 Study: ALL participants MUST Review assigned reading aterials & attend Sunday 6/14/09 Troop Meeting at Waterfront on California Rd. - Beginner's Guide to Paddling Canoes & Kayaks (Amer Canoe Assoc) - Guide to Safe Scouting: Aquatics Safety (also includes Safety Afloat & Safe Swim Defense) 3 Adult Training: Prior to Departure, ALL T-353 Adult Leaders MUST email completed certificates for 3 online training modules (Youth Protection, Safety Afloat & Safe Swim Defense) to Lisa Brown. 4 Timing: Be punctual Sat morning as we MUST arrive at TMR Landing 10:00--10:30am & follow Troop 353 Campout Schedule closely. 5 Canoe Specific Gear To Wear (upon departure from TCC): bathing suit & shirt, water shoes (or old sneakers), strap for glasses / sunglasses, Hat, Personal Flotation Device (PFD) MUST be worn at all times. 6 Canoe Specific Gear (use old school daypack): towel & lunch/afternoon snack (each inside a 2 gal freezer bag), 32 oz energy drink or water, water bailer (cut top half of 1-gal milk jug & duct tape cap in place or a large sponge), kneeling pad (ie, for gardening), sunscreen, wide-brim hat, waterproof camera (optional). 7 Travel Logistics: - 110 Miles to TMR Landing (2.5 hours). Each driver must have directions (T-353 Website) & various cell phone #s.. - Cars w/ camping gear will be left at TMR Landing on e River (Beginning of canoe trip) all day. - All participants will be transferred via bus 12 miles up to TMR Landing from Minisink (end point on river). - Trout Pond Campsite is 1--2 miles or less from TMR Landing. - Bug & tick repellant MUST be applied prior to depart MR Landing for Trout Pond campsite. 8 Buddy System in effect at ALL times. 9 Patrol Method in effect at ALL times (camping & meals) Be helpful to the other boys in your patrol & respectful of everyone. 10 Be Prepared (to get wet and have a lot of FUN)!
