Keep your business on track!

The first step is keeping employees happy and motivated is making sure your business is run well.

A well run business means that you will be able to look after your employees. There are a variety of services available to make managing a business simpler such as invoice factoring which might help free up cash flow.

1. Provide training.

Providing training to help your employees grow is one of the most important things you can do. It ensures employees are up to date with how the business is currently working, therefore helping increase their productivity. If employees have changed roles or assumed new responsibility, providing training for their new roles will bring them up to speed quickly, meaning they can get stuck into their new job without much trouble.

Making sure your employees are always learning is one of the best motivators there is!

2. Acknowledge good work.

While this may seem like an obvious one, if management don't acknowledge good work from their staff when it happens, it could leave the staff feeling unappreciated and discouraged. While praising staff members in private or in team meeting may keep them happy, the best way to do it is publicly. Not only will it motivate the praised staff member to continue to do good work, it may also encourage other staff members to put in the extra effort in order for their work to be recognised in the same fashion.

3. Set objectives.

Setting objectives of what is expected of each member of staff over a six month or yearlong period will allow them to know what to aim for, and to get a great sense of achievement when they completed their goals.

Objectives ensure that both parties are clear on what is expected from them, and ensure the workers stay motivated to work towards completing their goals.

4. Communication.

Communication may seem like a given, but the key is to communicate often and well. It's important to talk to your employees in person, instead of just always relying on emails and the telephone. A face to face conversation can make all the difference.

It is also important to make sure all your employees know what is going on and are aware of any important thing which it is your job to communicate to them. Make sure you keep them informed and up to date, as they may feel unmotivated if they are kept out of the loop too often.

5. Deal with stress.

Even the most enjoyable jobs can become stressful at times, and if you're stressed out in the workplace, it may lead your motivation to drop. Listen to what is making your employees stressed and try and find ways to deal with it. Encourage staff members to bring a problem to you when they have one so you can try and hit the nail on the head. Asking around to find ways of dealing with stress is also a good idea to keep staff involved in the process. If that means a team lunch out once a month, or providing the office with stress balls, it may be worth it to try and keep everyone calm and motivated.
