Sandia Labs – Real World Scenario

• Sandia Corporation operates Sandia National Laboratories as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)

• Supports numerous federal, state and local government agencies, companies and organizations

• Operated and managed by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation

The Challenges

• Alleviate the need for individual development teams to research and purchase disparate Agile ALM solutions

• Needed a solution that was approved to run on multiple Sandia networks

• Centralized management for source code management was a key requirement

• Keep pace with new IT modernization challenges around three key themes of: Transform, Protect and Advance

• Enable them the ability to move into the Cloud when ready

How Did Sandia Solve the Challenges?

• They did this by standardizing on a single ALM platformo Reduced duplication of efforts for code and document management

o Consolidated SVN and Git camps into central location to ensure the date for DR planning

o Consolidated IT software and resources thus reducing overall costs and improving efficiencies

o Enables then to be “Cloud ready”

• Sandia now has a Shared Services Group

within its IT department that supports

development teams internally and can be

extended beyond non-NNSA groups

• Provides common software tools

(databases, ALM applications and

platform options, etc.)
