Lighting: Front light & blue gel light

Model: (josh) Male because it’s a Top Man shoot.

Model style: Grunge/dark.

Shoot #1This shoot is for Top Mans grunge range. Inspired by a darker side of fashion. I chose to do this because I don’t really have much interest in high fashion, but this style of clothing is something I can work with.

evaluation To start with I really liked this shoot. I

liked the idea I had, with the graffiti background, because it gave the image another thing going on. But the more I look at them, I know I should have had a proper look at poses to base josh on because I really had no idea how I wanted him to stand. Except for the one where he is leaning back.

Hair light behind the head.

Black background to keep a grungy/dark feel to the smarter shoot. Model style: shirt

and tie, but slightly casual.

Shoot #2This shoot is for Top Man shirt and tie. It still have a dark feel to it, but it’s a lot smarter than the previous grunge shoot.

evaluation This was probably my favourite shoot out of the 3 studio

shoots that I did. I like the variety of poses that I got. From my last shoot I learned that I really needed to do some research into model poses to suit the style before hand, so I did and im really please with how these images came out. In comparison to the first shoot, these images are a lot lighter. Which takes away from the dark grunge feel, but I think the way the model is keeps enough of that style just by being him for it still to fit. My favourite image from this shoot is the middle one on the slide above because I think its an interesting pose and the side shot really makes good use of the hair light. I also added the coat to bring a little more darkness into the image, but it still keeps the smart feel I was going for.

Shoot #3This shoot was extremely experimental. I knew I needed to shoot in a way that would show the bracelets to match the table top shoot, but I didn’t have any ideas for lighting or pose. So I kind of just had to go for it. I used josh again as my model because I’m used to working with him and I don’t feel weird asking him to do stuff.

Evaluation The idea of this shoot was to mainly get

the model and the bracelets in the shot and have both as part of the focus.

Table top #1This table top shoot is to accompany the first studio shoot of Top Man grunge. I used these bracelets as a grunge style accessory.

Jeffry campbell lay out practice using photoshop and illustrator. I chose to use Campbell for this because it inspires the grunge theme that I chose for my Topman idea.

Spread Ideas

Model on one side and object on the other.

Black and white to mirror a more grungy/ dark feel.

Double page spreadFinal Spread – This took me ages to do because I wanted to make the two pictures look like they should fit next to each other and blend together so that it looked like on smooth image. The problem was that the table to image (right) is landscape, so I couldn’t get the whole image in without it looking disproportionate to the studio shoot image (left)

To get the two images to fit together, I moved the table top image to fit the height of the page. This does mean that I lost a lot of the image to the right of the frame, and some to the left underneath the studio shoot image, but I made sure to make the most interesting part of the image visible. To make them look more like they fitted together, I used a black gradient from slightly to the left of the table top image, over lapping onto the studio shoot image, so that it looked like the black from the studio shoot image was bleeding onto the table top image. I then used the burn tool to darken the corners from the overlap all the way round the outside of the left hand image. I’m really happy with the way this turned out because it achieved the look I was going for in that the burn tool makes it look grungy and dirty as well as smoothing the two images together. I then added the TOPMAN logo over the corner with the lest going on in it, so not to cut out anything in either image, in white, so that it stands out, but doesn’t look too in your face in comparison from the rest of the picture. I think this works because I used black and white on the studio shoot image.
