Top Tips to Stay Healthy and Boost your Immune System for Covid19: Eat Nutrient Dense Foods: I know we all hear that we need to boost our vitamins and minerals right now, and the best way to do that is with food! A few immune-boosting foods are ginger, blueberries, bok choy, asparagus, onion, garlic, citrus, carrots, brussel sprouts, cabbage, bone broth, honey, and many more! Foods with high Vitamin C content are kale, kiwi, green and red peppers, broccoli, strawberries, guava, papaya, etc. Nourish your body with protein from pasture raised meats and wild caught seafood as well. Movement: It is important to get some daily movement in even though we are all stuck at home. Exercise helps to strengthen the immune system. Having good respiratory health and a healthy heart is imperative right now. Just don’t overdo it because your body will still need time to rest and recover in order to not get sick! Herbs and Supplements: The following herbs and supplements are great for boosting the immune system and for staving off viruses: elderberries, green and black tea, fennel, echinacea, astragalus, licorice root, olive leaf, oregano, colloidal silver, zinc, probiotics, etc. Brush your teeth: Bacteria in the oral cavity may put you more at risk for Covid-19 so maintaining good oral hygiene is key! Increase your brushing to 3 times a day if you can. Use mouthwash and don’t forget to floss! Practice Self-Care: Now is more important than ever to reduce our stress. If we are stressed that can down-regulate the immune system and make us more susceptible to sickness. Try meditation, breathing exercises, and writing in a gratitude journal. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night! Ancient Healing Practices: Stimulate your lymphatic system by trying cold therapy (ie cold showers), dry brushing, and sweating (sauna). Improve your gut health: To have a healthy immune system means we need to have a healthy gut. Eat nourishing foods like bone broth, healthy fats, anti-inflammatory foods, and probiotic foods. Anti- inflammatory foods such as avocado, celery, olive oil, kale, arugula, cinnamon, pasture raised meats and wild caught seafood, etc. Use apple cider vinegar and lemon water to aid in digestion, limit sugar, and eat in a parasympathetic state. Practice Good Hygiene: The best and the easiest way to reduce the spread of germs. Wash your hands for at least 2 minutes, multiple times per day. Shower daily. Wipe down all household surfaces and knobs daily. Stay Home: Last but not least… let’s flatten the curve and keep to ourselves! It is well-known that many people are asymptomatic, so we need to make sure not to spread our germs to people who are at risk. **For more information on these topics and more, follow Laura on Instagram @nourishednutrition.lw or visit her website at www.nourishednutritionconsulting.com
