Van Driver: Driver/Van Driver for Friends Outside Make a difference! Each Visitor Center has a Van Driver who is responsible for assisting clients with local travel in order to visit incarcerated friends and family at the institution. The Van Driver plans, provides information and drives a passenger van in the local area and on institution grounds. He/she reports to the Visitor Center Program Director. This is a part time position, working weekends and all major holidays. Friends Outside is an organization founded in 1955 by Quakers in the traditions of respect, nonviolence and social justice. We have been working inside California state prisons since 1971. We provide evidence-based jail and prison rehabilitation programs, long and short term reentry support, Criminals and Gang Members Anonymous meetings, family support through institution Visitor Centers, and advocacy for children of incarcerated parents through the "Bill of Rights for Children of Incarcerated Parents”. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. California Department of Motor Vehicles Class A or B license, with passenger endorsement. A Motor Vehicles Class C license is required to transport passengers in a vehicle that is designed to carry less than 15 passengers. Agricultural Aide & Agricultural Technician: The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is looking to hire inspectors for seasonal and part-time work. CDFA operates 16 border stations throughout the state neighboring Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon. The Department’s mission is to prevent the introduction of exotic invasive species from becoming established in the State of California. The inspector will be responsible for inspecting plant material and different modes of transportation (automobiles, recreational vehicles, utility vehicles, and commercial trucks) for the presence of agricultural pests and for compliance with plant quarantine regulations. The inspector will also be responsible to cooperatively work with other agencies related in the enforcement and regulations of non-agricultural commodities. The stations operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the incumbent will be expected to work various shifts throughout the day, weekends, and holidays. The work is mostly done outdoors in conditions of extreme weather and temperatures. The job entails standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting contraband up to 100 pounds. Home Inspector: Inspectors primarily complete residential home inspections, using proprietary inspection software, for homeowners and others involved in real estate transactions. Additional inspections include wood destroying organisms inspections, mold screenings and commercial inspections. The purpose of the inspection process is to provide clients with unbiased and non-threatening information they need as they make significant decisions regarding the condition of their existing or future home. This is a physically demanding and people-oriented business relying heavily on attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Successful inspectors must be able to climb ladders, crawl under homes, carry tools and equipment, all while smiling and showing their enjoyment in providing a valuable service to the client. Inspectors must be able to communicate effectively with customers, clients and other team members; operate a computer and digital camera; navigate the internet and use provided software applications. Inspectors use common sense, courtesy, flashlights and ladders – all interchangeably.
