SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND TRANSPORTATION

WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION?

Sustainable transportations also known as Green Transport. It is any form of transport that does not use or rely on decreasing natural resources. But those transport relies on renewable

or regenerated energy rather than fossil fuels that have a finite amount .Hence, the environment will receive a low or a negative effect because the energy sources are sustainable.

2.0 SUSTAINABLE DESIGN1.Comprehensive direct networks for walking, cycling and public transport

2.Limited private vehicle access to homes and services.3.Situating key services such as health centers and schools in central locations within the town.

4.Traditional compact town layouts5. Inclusive street environments that aim to integrate the activities of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

6. Home zones7. Shared space streets and squares

8. Car-free areas within a development9. Pedestrianized shopping areas

10. A ‘legible’ development design11. Joined-up transport networks, with good interchanges

PROVIDE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION1. train2. buses

3. beating congestion4. creating a positive bus environment

CLEANER VEHICLES1. electric cars- Car uses electric motor instead of internal combustion engine. Electric car are more energy efficient by storing chemical energy in rechargeable battery packs2. hybrid cars- Hybrid cars uses both electric motor and internal combustion engine whether it use petrol or diesel and electric batteries thus it useless petroleum and less pollution.3. hydrogen cars- Use hydrogen in two ways as primary source. First, combustion conversion; hydrogen is burned in engines in much the same way as conventional cars. Second, fuel-cell conversion; fuel cells turns the hydrogen into electricity to power electric motors.4. solar car- Use solar panels to converts solar energy into electric energy.
