The chicken and the egg…………!!!!! Same things and same story. Who was First? TOTAL

QUALITY PEOPLE or TOTAL QUALITY ATTITUDE?

People always existed but not the attitude but the converse can also take a firm stand. Well leave this matter to the readers after going through the document. But a quality attitude can be developed by simply following the three steps:

1. Pay attention to detail 2. Do things right the first time 3. Practice good human relations

TOTAL QUALITY ATTITUDE

Management gurus have given a lot of very good definitions on quality, but for

a layman quality would simply mean

No fused bulbs

No rats, no files

No leaking tap

A very good reputation

Every phone is picked up before the third ring

Every incoming letter is replied to promptly

When you regularly clean your armpits

When you don’t have noisy door closers

When you have neat and clean telephone instruments.

IN FACT IT IS DOING SMALL, SMALL THINGS GREATLY

QUALITY IS DOING SMALL, SMALL THINGS

Quality means no fused bulbs…..

Quality means no rats, no files..

Quality means no leaking tap….

Quality is like reputation…….

Quality is when every phone is picked up

With the inception of ‘total’ in all the aspects of life and corporate world, all the

strategies, Plans are being built on the bridge of TOTAL.

To gain market share, build a name in the corporate world, all the companies

from ABC to HLL are focusing on quality.

Even the small shopkeepers talk of their qualitative products and services. A lot

of concepts such as:

(1) TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT

(2) TOTAL PRODUCTIVITY MANAGEMENT

………………

and various others have come up.

People, Products, price, time, promotional schemes etc. All are spoken of as

quality and much more focused as ‘TOTAL’

Colgate people talk of COLGATE TOTAL. , and Pepsodent brand

Talks of TOTAL PROTECTION.etc.

Now there’s an International toothpaste

We believe in making the company and its products a very qualitative one -

Infact of total quality.

I am of the opinion that till people join hands, a company cannot be formed

and without the formation of the company, products cannot be manufactured

or invented.

So first and foremost people have to be qualitative and this can only be

possible if we make our mind qualitative through our positive quality attitudes.

Hence to be successful, for the company to be successful, it is a must for each

individual to have total quality attitude. Each and every employee of the

company should have an open mind because nothing dies faster than a new idea

in a closed mind (exhibit 1).

Attitudes and skills

For the formation of a toothpaste, medicine, water or any other product there are always certain basic ingredients needed to form the complete product. Similary to have a positive attitude and skills, basic factors or qualities are needed to make the soup of attitude. These qualities are looked by the company in his dream Employee, in family members and in our own ideal self. One can add or Delete from this list that each one should possess, be it peon or the President.

There is in fact a thin line of distinction between attitudes and skills. Even the

less skills people can improve by practice and advance higher position in life but

with poor or negative attitudes the best of skills are useless and worthless,

because:-

Hence forth skills are not enough. It’s ones attitude that marks all the

difference-and as far as improvement is concerned, sky is the limit. Positive

attitude gives you confidence to fly high in the sky and soar new heights.

Attitude can make you a winner always but simultaneously a looser forever! This

may seem ambiguous but it is true.

I remember of a very talented classmate of mine. He was always bristling for a

fight and he developed a fixed personality of being anxious, angry, mean and

short tempered – his talents took a back seat. Just because of this attitude, all

other avoided him. In fight he used to win by boxing down others but he actually

lost all wars-the wars of good relationship, the war of healthy approach and

many more to follow.

Infact, when we fight with our boss, our wife, our customer then the situation

is somewhat like this:- He/She has a diamond studded golden pistol in the hands

and your hands are tied back. This is absolutely an unequal fight. Even if you

win this battle you have lost the war.

Hence forth it can be concluded that HAVING A TALENT ISN’T WORTH MUCH

UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

The problem for war or battle arises only when there is absence of ideas. One

must compare himself with himself. Forgiveness should be made a permanent

attitude.

Adopt an outlook of suspended conclusion, accept some level of dust in life, and

keep in mind that laughter kills stress. If you don’t laugh then you shall miss

many mysteries of life.

Much more if you slip (don’t fail), lower you standards and be up; you are

bound to come up with your own custom – built approach. Because:-

WHO ROLL UP THEIR SLEEVES AND

PUT THEIR SHOULDERS TO THE WHEEL

As far as failure is concerned don’t be afraid to fail, just observe the following

facts:-

● You have failed many times although you may not remember

● You fell down the first time you tried to walk, you almost drowned the

first time you tried to swim.

● R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in Newyork caught on.

● English novelist John Creasy got 753 rejection slips before he published

564 times.

Therefore on should not worry about failure but worry about the chances you

have missed when you did not even try?

The best example that can be quoted is that of Abtraham Lincon… This giant

among American presidents lost several elections before reaching the White

House. Lincon had the following to say after loosing a senate race.

“The path was won and slippery. My foot slipped from under me knocking the

other out of the way but I recovered and said to myself. “It’s a slip and not a

fail”

Someone has rightly said, “Failure? I never encountered it. All I ever met is

were temporary setbacks”

Years ago I read that success needs not explanation and failure has none.

Again, it’s a matter of attitude.

We always talk of changing the world, change other but what about our self-

audit.

Self-Audit

The following words were written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop (1100 AD) in the crypts of Westminster Abbey.

“When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamt of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser. I discovered the world would not change so I shortened my sight somewhat and decided to change my country. But it, too, seemed immovable. As I grew in to my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it. And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize. If I had only changed my self-first. Then by example. I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement. I would then have been able to better my country and who knows. I may have even changed the world.”

All of us postpone things. We procrastinate. We rationalize. We make excuse. We foolishly believe that to be creative and to have a positive

attitude, we have to have all kinds of preconditions.

The essence that comes out is that we ourselves do not want to put in efforts. Think about this statement: - Cows don’t give milk-it is to be

extracted and that too, slowly.

We have read in primary classes that the Cow is a wonderful animal,

she gives milk………” But infact the cow is milked, slowly and by putting in efforts.

Before you proceed for any result a lot of efforts are put in – even for

the self-audit.

When we talk of success we say that we have learnt from our past mistakes and so we have become successful. But truly speaking there

is no past or future. We have only PRESENT with POSITVE Attitude. It is only this positive attitude that determines you future course of action.

You can change yourself by changing your attitude without fear of error.

BIBO – GIGO

BIBO & GIGO were two friends. GIGO was always successful in life where as BIBO was an utter failure in spite of putting in a lot of efforts.

GIGO was successful because he always had good ideas in – good ideas out whereas BIBO had bad ideas in – bad ideas out.

For anything and of course for attitude too, it is always a systems,

approach. As would be the input so would be the output. If good ideas enter our mind then good words, good attitudes and good work would

be performed by us. If bad ideas enter our mind then of course bad outcome would make its place.
