Principal’s Message
My thanks to all parents who attended our assembly last Friday. It was great to see so many parents enjoy the assembly and help recognise the achievements of our students. Year 4/5/6 students should be proud of their work and Stage 5 students should be equally proud of their outstanding efforts in their recent ‘mock interviews’. Congratulations to all students who received UNSW Test certificates, Merit Certificates, Sports Awards or Bronze and Silver Awards. This week we have the Well-Being Day on Wednesday. It is a mufti-day and students will be able to participate in a range of fun, healthy activities. Perhaps the highlight for secondary students and students in Year 4/5/6 will be the circus skills session. In conjunction with the Well-Being Day, we have a visit from Graham Hyman on Tuesday and Wednesday. Graham will be speaking to parents on Tuesday night at 7.00pm at the Tottenham Bowling Club. Graham is a well-known child psychologist and public speaker and he presents his information in an interesting and entertaining manner. Whilst his seminar titled - ‘Understanding Your Teenager’ is aimed at parents of teenagers, it will be beneficial for all parents. I urge you to attend this free event. Wednesday’s Well-Being Day will be a very busy day. We are expecting secondary students from the other ‘T’ schools to join with our secondary students in attending the Graham Hyman seminar - ‘Not Alone, Stand Tall’, between recess and lunch. In catering for the extra numbers I would ask any parents who may be able to help with donations of muffins for recess, or perhaps volunteer some time to help make wraps, to contact Jane Baker on 6892 8251. I would also ask parents whose children are bringing their own recess and/or lunch to remember that our Well-Being Day is a ‘healthy’ day and that parents should especially ensure that their children bring wholesome nutritious food to school on that day. Please note that the canteen will only be selling pre-ordered muffins, wraps and drinks on Well-Being Day. On Wednesday in the evening we look forward to the Burgoyne Debate, which starts at 7:00pm at the Tottenham Golf Club. The Burgoyne Debate is a very special annual event with a very important safety message. Please come along and support our young speakers and thinkers from Year 5 and 6!
Parents of children in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 should have received their child’s NAPLAN results. Tottenham CS’s results were generally very pleasing- with our Year 3 and Year 5 students’ school average above ‘National Average’ in every assessment area. If you didn’t receive the NAPLAN results could you please contact me at school. Next week is primary excursion week, with students involved in their class excursions. Students in Year 4/5/6 will be in Sydney for four days, Year 3 students at Wambangalang on Wednesday and Thursday, and the K/1/2 students will be enjoying the Dubbo Zoo on Wednesday. Have a wonderful week!
Steve Garriock

PARENTS OF YEAR 5 STUDENTS - SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT - YR 7 2015 Government schools use a range of strategies to meet the educational needs of gifted and talented students. One strategy is selective high school placement which provides intellectual stimulation and an educationally enriched environment for gifted and talented students. Offers for selective high school placement will be determined mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Test Results and school assessment. If you would like your child to apply for selective high school placement for Year 7 in 2015, you need to do so soon. More information and online application forms are available at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement Please contact the school if you would like more information.
