The group celebrated the growth of Touchmark’s residential care neighborhoods and new opportunities to enhance the economic vitality of Bend in 2014. The community collected donations of toiletries and personal hygiene items for Shepherd’s House, which feeds and shelters the homeless. Touchmark Foundation also presented a check to Central Oregon Community College to support local nurse education programs.

Sunday, March 2, 1 pm Cascade Winds Symphonic Band at Summit High School. No cost. Transportation provided. Sign up at any front desk.

Thursday, March 6, 3 pm Tour and tea tasting at Kombucha Mama. No charge.

Tuesday, March 11, 2 pm Armchair Traveler: Eastern Europe. Watch a travel DVD, which will cover the Czech Republic and beyond. Light snack served. Residents who have traveled or lived in the featured destination are invited to bring pictures, stories, clothes, etc. to share after event. All welcome. Terrace Lodge Forum.

Monday, March 17, 3:30 - 4 pm Irish Dancers perform. This group of young dancers is a community favorite. Join us for an exciting performance in the Terrace Lodge Forum followed by

a beer social in the Terrace Lodge Lounge. All welcome.

Thursday, March 20, 11 am Touchmark Connections Meeting. Monthly meeting of family members, caregivers, and friends of individuals living with age-related dementia illness provides support, education, and strategies as well as an accepting environment. All welcome. Four Seasons Private Dining Room.

Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 - 2 pm Moving For Life Class (formerly known as Movement Disorder Exercise Class). This class is designed to help maintain and improve mobility for those with physical challenges associated with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy by focusing on balance, agility, flexibility, and strength. Cost for four-week session: $25 for one class a week or $40 for two classes a week. Cliff Lodge Aerobics Room.

Charity project: do you knit, sew, or crochet? Participate in the Deschutes County Department of Human Services ninth annual Community Baby Shower by donating gently used, new, or handmade baby items. Soroptimist International of Bend, Oregon will collect donations and give them to local families in need. Project ends March 31.

New hours for Rosell Wealth Management Financial Specialist Brenna Hasty will be in the office, located in the Cliff Lodge, the first and third Thursday of every month from 3 to 5 pm or anytime by appointment. Also, David Rosell, founder and president, has published a new book. Failure Is Not an Option: Creating Certainty In the Uncertainty of Retirement is available on Amazon or in the Touchmark C-Store.

Bend Memorial Clinic has opened an office at Touchmark

Residents can now book an appointment with Dana Rhode, DO, at the new Bend Memorial Clinic office in the Touchmark Cliff Lodge. Call the Bend Memorial Clinic at 541-382-4900 and ask to be scheduled with Dr. Dana Rhode in the Touchmark exam room. She is available to see residents Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 pm.

Seeking prose from residents and team members

Touchmark is creating a memorial book of poetry composed of original poems created by residents and team members.

Locate your original works or create a new rhyme or free verse. Up to 10 poems from each Touchmark location will be published in the book. The selected poets from Touchmark at Mt. Bachelor Village will

receive a dinner at the Four Seasons Dining Room, where they can gather and share their passion and inspiration for writing.

To enter, request a form called “Let Your Spirit Soar” from any front desk. Then, submit it with your work of about 200 words. To request help with getting your writing down, call 541-848- 4159 and leave your name, address, and ideal times. Please submit completed works to the front desk by May 1, 2014.

It has been a season of snow and fun. Residents walked through the snowy terrain during a guided snowshoeing tour at Mt. Bachelor Resort with a US Forest Services naturalist. They also gathered for a New Resident Luncheon and enjoyed meeting new neighbors.
