INTRODUCTION• A touchscreen is any monitor, based

Technology, that accepts direct

onscreen input.• The ability for direct onscreen input

is facilitated by an external

(light pen) or an internal device(touch overlay and controller) thatrelays the X,Y coordinates to thecomputer

WORKING• A basic touchscreen has three main components:1. A touch sensor2. A controller

3. Software driver.

• The touchscreen is an input device, so it needs tobe combined with a display and a PC or other

device to make a complete touch input system.

 1. Touch Sensor

• A touch screen sensor is aclear glass panel with atouch responsive surface.

The touch sensor/panel isplaced over a displayscreen so that theresponsive area of thepanel covers the viewablearea of the video screen.

Sensor• The sensor generally has an electrical current or signal

going through it and touching the screen causes a voltageor signal change. This voltage change is used to determinethe location of the touch to the screen.

CONTROLLER• The controller is a small

PC card that connectsbetween the touch sensorand the PC. It takesinformation from thetouch sensor andtranslates it intoinformation that PC can

understand. The controlleris usually installed insidethe monitor

SOFTWARE DRIVER• The driver is a softwareupdate for the PC systemthat allows thetouchscreen and computer

to work together. It tellsthe computer's operatingsystem how to interpretthe touch eventinformation that is sentfrom the controller. Mosttouch screen drivers todayare a mouse-emulationtype driver.

• This makes touching the screen the same as clicking yourmouse at the same location on the screen. This allows thetouchscreen to work with existing software and allowsnew applications to be developed without the need fortouchscreen specific programming.

RESISTIVE TOUSHSCREEN

TECHNOLOGY

•  Resistive technologyconsists of a glass or likepanel that is coated withelectrically conductiveand resistive layers. Thethin layers are separatedby invisible separatordots. While turned on, an

electrical current movesthrough the screen .

• When you touch the screen (creating pressure) thelayers are pressed together, causing a change in theelectrical current and a touch command to be registered

• ADVANTAGE1. Not affected by dust, dirt, water or light

2. Affordable

3. Pressure sensitive

CAPACITIVE TOUCH

SCREEN• A Capacitive Touchscreen consists of a glasspanel with a capacitive(charge storing) materialcoating its surface.Circuits located at cornersof the screen measure thecapacitance of a persontouching the overlay.

• .

Frequency changes are measured to determine the X

and Y coordinates of the touch command. Capacitive

touch screens are the preferred touch solution for

applications that require fast and accurate touch

performance . Capacitive touch screen panels must betouched with a finger

ADVANTAGES

1. High image clarity

2. Not affected by dirt ,grease ,moisture

INFRARED TOUCHSCREEN

Infrared touchscreen technology with the Plasma

display solutions . This is the only type of touch

technology that we have available for large displays

such as 42-inch Plasma screens. It is a durabletechnology that offers high image clarity. Responds to

any input device or stylus.

ADVANTAGES

1. Used in medical applications

2. Used in 42-inch Plasma screen
