Tournament 19.7.2014Why did I make this subsumption

wo reasons, to share my experience with other play-ers and to improve this game. Dont misunderstandmy intentions, its a great game and I love to play it.Nevertheless some races dearly require their missingunits, the reason why I might add a ew comments, otherwise please enjoy reading and eel ree to make

    your own oppinion.

Te Rules? We played three Missions Bridges o Death, CelestialVortexand Usurper(King o Hill).

A player that wins a game gets 5 quest points. Playerso a game that ends in a draw get 2 quest points each.Losers o a game get 0 quest point. Players may earnadditional quest points in a game by completing oneo the ollowing game objectives:

    F th l i i p i t i th

My ListI had a second list with plagues, just or un,nevertheless my first list was better. It was my firsttournament, I had no idea what missions I had toplay, thereore my list is really bad to play CelestialVortex, recomman another list or this mission.

Further you can only score mission points in the

    BanebroodUnits

    - GorelordA really amazing unit, the Gorelord is my avoritewarchie. Its possible to reach 13 meele in a charge, with incredible damage output. Not to mention youget 1 AP or any killed living unit. Tis guy is

Pacmans evil older brother, who hadnt had a happychildhood! You see what I mean, when you eat a unitrom lef to right away! Nevertheless, dont waste him, keep him behind your lines till his time comes toshine. Charging means victory and the Gorelord is theonly unit a troglodyt player ears!

    - Fallow ShamanTe Shaman increase the mobility and d amage outputo your units, whats the key to victory. Compared toother mages, they suck because o their MAG 6,except you have Fomorian Gut-Hakers. With themyou nearly ail a check, but avoid cursing enemies.Boosting is so much easier!Even with more heatlh, they can be take out easily, thereore protect them!

    - Fomorian Gut-Hackers

Tese guys are worth their points!Amazing damage, high hit chance (MEL 7) and theycan attack multiple targets.Other than their little brothers, theMaldire Mongrels, they have better armor, more health, one 1AP moreand a high MAG 5 value, which makes cursing themquite hard. Imagine what they can do with a FallowShaman! ForgetMaldire Mongrels, I recommendusing these guys. Only thing I wonder, they are higlymagical, why dont they get Enchanted Attackto makethem spectral hunters. Might be a problem oblancing.

    - UrsapineTe word or this unit is average, average health, average deense, anything over average kills theursapin. Still I really appreciate the ursapine, because

rightly played, he can be a pain in the ass! Key is hisability to deal damage when attacked, which me ans,you dont have to keep AP points!Te Urspaine is great against any unit with low armor, use him against them, especially i the unit attacksmultiple times. Other than that, his spikeball allowshim to ignore terrain and roll behind enemy lines, binding a unit. You dont require line o sight to dothat. With other words, the ursapine can secure keypositions, bind enemies or be a sacrefice. All that orcheap 38 points.

    Bridges of DeathIntro

It was my first game, thereore I tried to hard to wipeout the enemy. I would have won, i time hadnt runout (Tird round - Sudden Death). It ended in a draw, with me having ar more killpoints (which wins menothing). Plainly spoken, you win i you are a sneakybastard. All you have to to is to bring your units over

the bridge and thats ALL HA MAER.

Enemy:I played against Halodynes. Since my opponent usedcity-state models, I hadnt really much to ear.My biggest concern was, how to counter the giantstatue and the Halo Warrioro the temple action.Tey werent part o this game. Further he had twoCeberus models, which I know, he would use or aquick rush on my side, using their movement speedto avoid any conrontation. A cowardly tactic, butsomething I used against him. Te match was notthat pleasant, because he cursed my ursapine to beoverpowerd and in the last round, he c ame me withwhatever rules, while I allowed him to call tacticsafer a charge (he orgot it) and other things. Afer

making the game a draw, I had to orce him to shakemy hand and call it a good game, which was the onlything, that really pissed me.Well, some people are really desperate to win.

    Bridges of DeathDeployment

I placed my units close between right corner andcenter, creating the illusion to ocus only on the rightand center bridge. Like I anticiapted, he put his twoceberus on my lef side. Ohh, what surprise I had instore or him.

Round 1First I activated my Gorelord to give 1 AP bothshamans and used the rest to move in direction centerto protect the middle bridge. My se cond activationwas to cast Longlegswith my first Shaman on theUrsapine and Guthackers, while using the secondShaman to mutate the spells.Tird action was using my ursapine (which was now

light cavallary with Mov 5) to run accross thebattlefield to block the right bridge, calling his tactic.Tose ceberus should dare to attack it now.Guthackers where running over the lef bridge, already securing it or me.

Round 2Tere was a lot o fighting this round, finally some

blood! Hoplites were coming closer to myguthackers (out o range or charge) and using theirphalanx. Teir demarchon well protected next tothem. O course my guthackers didnt wait andcharged into them. Well my mistake was not to breaktheir ormation first, instead I tried to get damage onthe demarchon (he had ARM 11 ). I couldnt use allguthackers, because o the space and di d 2 missrolls, resulting in only one guthacker attacking two times(Circle tactic). Tat was a weak first attack.

    Bridges of Death----

Both Ceberus charged my Ursapine and both othem got their ass kicked. A lot damage or both othem, trying to break through my Ursapine. Howcan a beast with mere 38 points stop two Ceberus!!!Overpowerd!!Because you try to beat stone with twoscissors....

In the end both ceberus were seriously wounded, onewith 1 HP the other with 5 HP, both poisend.

Still my ursapine was under heavy pressure, thereoreI moved my Gorelord to assist my loved pet and usedhis tactic, allowing me to break the enemys tactic andthereore preventing the ceberus to use his sel tactic.

----I expected the hill ogres to help the hoplites, insteadthe moved over the bridge to secure a point. Ok, I wasa little bit surprise by that move, since it means I candestroy his hoplites and take out the Hill Ogres withmy Gorelord.

Round 3Te hill ogres used their first activation to charge myshaman and kill him. Ok, that was to be expected, butwhatever, it was my Shaman with the spell Longlegs, already sustained. My concern was my ursapine, fin-ishing both ceberus and granting me certain victory. But beore that I activated my Guthackers to finish thehoplites and his Demarchon. Again I used more mus-cles than brain, attacking the Demarchon first, usingtheir multiple hit tactic, to hurt his minions, result-ing in countless deaths o these poor minons. WouldI have attacked the other way around, I would havekilled the Demarchon (by loosing his Phalanx bonus).Nevertheless I had our guthackers, ready to finish the

    job in the next round.

----Well, next I activated my Ursapine and used his rollo death tactic, sadly I missed one puppy (the onewith 1 hp). I us ed my last 2 Action Points to attackit, o course he called counter attack, resulting thatI missed and the ceberus was hitting with a damagedice o (5+6), ki lling the ursapine. Grasping his luck,he activated and ran straight over the bridge as ar ashe could(what was not much with MOV 2). Well hegot me there, still double checking my miss. Fortunais a cruel maiden :P

    Bridges of Death---

Ok, time or my Gorlord to shine and finish those HillOgres. A little drug abuse and there he went, my bigboy. Ten we started discussing, because in my firstattack o the double attack I missed mentioning myweapon strength, resulting in 5 more damage. Im notsure, i it would have had any i mpact, but my opposite

player argued orgotten is orgotten. Yah, like your tac-tics and abilities o your units, ALL HE IME!Hadntmuch to say on that, thereore he removed the ogrewith a pissed gaze. Nevertheless the judge came over, said the game is over, we should count points. Myopposite already cheering his victory, cause he hadhis Ceberus and his Hill Ogre on my side, while I hadonly my Guthackers on his, mocking me, that I didntrun afer his Ceberus and oreiting my victory.I asked the judge i I can finish my turn, it was anywaythe last activation this round and he replied o course.I used my Slay-Movement to bring distance betweenmy Gorelord and his unit ( just eye-candy, I wasalready out o their combat range with the death othe Hill Ogre) and used 3AP to move over the bridge, meaning I score a point and making it a draw. Wellmy enemy was really pissed, saying its not allow to dothat, im in combat and have to attack urther, or I get

ree hits, preventing me to move and the game is al-ready over! Like I said I was out o combat range, had4 AP I could as I WISHand next to me the judge, sanctioning the action. Tereore the game ended in adraw, we me having ar more killing points (wins younothing, except a personal highscore).

Feedback - Bridges of Death 5/10Ok, Bridges o Death could be un, but truth told, neither I nor my oe really grasp the exploitableweakness o this map, or at least I didnt! I was justlooking or a bloody fight!PREVEN FIGHING A ALL COSS!Just move over one bridge with your u nits, securing aree way or succeeding units. Now the enemy canignore you or engage you (what means he lose,

because his units score no points while engaging youon his terrain). Any possible deense on the bridgewould be helpless against your concentrated army, ithere is anything ast enough! Te only real choicethe enemy has, is to play the same tactic and cross thebrige on the other side, creating a mexican standoff.Tats more or less wh at my enemy tried to do withhis two Ceberus. Tink about it more, you can score5 points by winning + 1 point i your unit is un-scratched. In other words, winning is all that matters, not killing units, and you win more by being a pussy!Every single action with slow units is doomed to lose. With riend the map might be un(because you wantto play, not to win), as a OFFICAL tournament mapits insufficient.

    Celestial VortexIntro

I had now to ace the strongest player in thistournament, winner o the last two tournaments, aroglodyte player, who just annihilate a Mortan player(like expected) in the last game. With other words, thecoming match was the ONLYmatch that mattered.

In the beginning I realised that I already was at a bigdisadvantage, because I had a flaw in my list orCelestial Vortex, while the other player, used his pre-pared second list slot or this special mission.

What Im talking about? Well, only character modelscan score points, I had my Gorelord and my Shamans, second just waiting to be slaughtered. Guthackershave to be used wise, but they are such good units, Iwould have taken them anyway. Te problem was myUsadir was absolutly useless against roglodytes IronHidesor Obsidian Nightmares, but worse, it could notmake a single point in this mission or me. Bringing abeast instead o a character model costed me plainlyspoken victory.

roglodytes are by ar the strongest race as they havearmor, health and INCREDIBLE utility! Further I

have nothing to deal with the ghosts (cyclops I missyou). Nevertheless, all odds against me gives me anextra thrill, I would outplay my oe. And so I did!

Te tactic was easy, surprise the enemy with a deepstrike in his territory, pushing him against the mapborder and allow the Shamans to take the points.I would use the Guthackers to deal with both IronHides and Obsidian Nightmares, supported by myUrsapine. Afer finishing them, the guthackers andthe Gorelord would flank the rest, making it possibleor my warchie to go toe on toe with the DuskbornChiefain.

    Deployment

Like I anticipated, he placed the terrain in the middle,so I might not approch the center, while deploying hischaracter models last, placing them on the other sideo my troops. Splitting my troops would mean certaindeath, so I kept them together.

    Celestial VortexRound 1

Nothing happend, except my gorelord reachedthe center o the map, while the Ursapine andGuthackers(only those were beeed up with Longlegsand Bulging Biceps) covered the right side, pre-paring to deepstrike. My shamans running afer thegroup with their short legs.

My enemy ordered his Iron Hides and O bisdianNightmares to engage and intercept my Gorelord.Te Duskborn Chiefain, Feral Hammerfist andLighteater brought more distance between myGorelord, and them while getting at the same timecloser to the lef Vortex.

Round 2Deepstrike! My Guthackers charged as light units, thanks to my Shaman, and encouraged by mychiefain with 1AP and his tactic into the Iron Hides, killing two o them, making the rest flee in terror. My Gorelord took the middle Vortex, both Shamanstried to reach the right Vortex, but couldnt reach itaround 2 . 4 Nightmares attacked with their minds

my Guthackers, not much impressing them much.Ursapine came to assist my guthackers. ogether theywould rip those ghosts apart.

Ten those trio moved in to secure the Vortex, whilethe Lighteater would use Eclipse(5 Haze Effect)to prevent any attempt rom me to charge with mygorelord at them.

At this moment I notice, the game was already overthanks to Eclipse. Tey scored 3 points, while I scored1 point,. I my Ursapine had been a character model, Iwould have won.

Round 3&4o make it quick, I charged with my Guthackers

the ghost, while one Guthacker charged the fleeingIron Hides (keeping ormation), making them runaway (hunted over the border), while I dealt dam-age to those ghosts. Te damage was very low, still Ikilled them in the orth round. Tey killed two o myGuthackers.

With that the game was over, since he would justhunting the vortex, always hiding himsel behindhis wall o darkness. Why didnt I engage? Because Irequired my character models to make three pointsevery round, otherwise I would have lost anyway. With other words I couldnt move a Shaman normy Gorelord, only a wounded Ursapine and ourGuthackers. Nothing that could take these guys out!

Celestial VortexStill I got 1 Point, which made 2nd

Because I didnt lose more than 8% o my warband, Igot 1 Point, means the match was 5:1. At this point Iwas certain to be second place. (see next match)

    Feedback - Celestial Vortex 1/10

1 point or trying to make an interesting tournamentmap and I will be completly honest:Tis was the worst map I have ever played!

Why are units and beasts not allowed to make points, instead those groups get damage? Anyone who usemore character models wins, especially, i he usesmodels like the Lighteater and Feral Hammerfist, which both have great crowed control and can preventengaging rom enemies! While units might be able todeal some damage, beast are just dead weight.

Te biggest problem is, that moving away rom thevortex means losing, since you dont generate pointsor victory. All your character models are bound tothose vortexes.

o win, all you have to do is run as ast as you can toone vortex, right or lef and place as many charactermodels on it as you can! Dont leave it at any costs.Even i you are engaged, remember, you have morecharacter models!

I think you see my point! My enemy played save, which is with other wordsabsolutly boring! Tis game is about clashing armiesnot about, whats the best way to avoid combat.

UsurperTe game Im not proud of

My last enemy was a Mortan player and that meansFREE WIN. I didnt even care or the mission goaland the guy didnt have the smallest chance as Iannihilated every single unit in the next three rounds.

Carniexes are just bad, avoid any base contact withan Centurion and your save, while the Princeptormight be a problem, he is no problem or a group oriendly bloodthirsty guthackers. Necromagus, wait, does the thing really do anything?

Jokes aside, I killed the Princeptor and C enturion inthe second round with just my guthackers and myGorelord had un with the legionaires.

Might have taken 4 rounds, but the player was riend-ly enough to send his last mortan soldier against myShaman, so that I can kill him.I appricate such cooperation!

Mortans are so bad, the player has my respect or stillplaying them.

Feedback - Usurper -/10I played my own game, who ast can I kill Mortans. It was really unny, but ace it, I didnt play Usurper.Tereore I cant say, i this mission is un or not.

At least you are orced to fight at the center!

    Closing WordsBecoming 2nd Place

Since I was the only one, who could get 1 Pointagainst the roglodyte player, I became second. For my first tournament, thats a great achievment.

I had more than double the time killing points thanthe 1st Place, what its my personal achievment, thatmakes me proud. I wasnt someone, who solely playedto win, I tried to engage and creating bloodbaths!

Te ournament was un playing, but Im not surei I will join a second tournament, because I know, how to win a mission and that has nothing to do withtactical skill or to know how your enemy ticks, itsplainly about what action you play and how ast youcan reach targets.

Fact is, roglodytes are too strong (a guy winningthree times straight in tournaments without even ear-ing deeat except rom another roglodyte is a sign)and thats not because o their points costs or basic

values, they have too much utility (and they get more)in my oppionon

Banebrood are incredible strong, since they are ast

and deadly. Teir mobility is key to win any mission.Just make sure you can charge an enemy and hit him.roglodyts are the only opponent you have to ear, butthey ear your charge, the Cyclop might change a ewthings! Nevertheless Banebrood is too strongcompared to other actions.

Mortans are laughable weak and their constructs aredeadweight, because they cant move, deend or takemission targets. Killing units give you no advantage atall, thereore waste o points.

Dwarves have the same problem with their MOV 2,they never reach the mission target in time!

Halodynes might get strong with their templesubaction, still they require luck to trigger their

Hallow Warrior, otherwise you just wipe their unitsout.

I know there wont be any chances, since itsimpossible to change unit cards, but changing andtweaking tournament missions should be a validoption.

    Tank you or reading!
