Initssocio-educational aspects 1have received guidance froman advisory committee based in theDepartment of Culture and Values inwhile as regards the Islamic asPectsupervision was provided by a faculty member in the Institute of Islamic Studies.Since this thesis contains Many Arabieand Persiantenns and expressions, I haveemployed the transliteration scheme for these two languages found in the ALA-LCRomanizat;on Tables:Transfileration Schemesfor Non-Roman scripts (1991), approved by theLibrary of Congress and the American Library Association. The two following tables representthistransliterationscheme forboththeArabicandPersianlanguages. For conveniencesake,the names of Persian and Arabic authors who are frequeotly referred to are not fullytransliterated, except when they arefirstmentioned.Thecomplete transliteratedform(Arabieor Persian) is presented in the bibliography.Translations of the Qur'nie verses in this dissertation are based 00 those of Yusuf Ali(TheQur'an, 1995)andM.H. Shakir(TheQur'an, 1991). Sometimes acombination of thesetwoversions is provided. 1 have madesornealterations wherever1 have felt it tohemoreappropriate. Theseinstances are mentioned in the footnotes.
