Key events: Regulatory environment evolution Before 1995: Telecom totally controlled by the

Government/Administration.

1995: Creation of Tunisie Telecom as a government establishment.

April 1996: Creation of ATI, the Tunisian Internet Agency. Company owned partially by Tunisie Telecom but totally controlled by the

Government,

Central Internet Authority: Everything related to internet is within the framework of ATI,

1997 & 2000: Internet market opening to competition: starting with 5 private ISPs.

2001: Telecom. Act (law n°2001—1) and creation of INT as Regulation Authority.

2002 – 2012 : Telecom Market Liberalization : 3 operators with fixed and mobile 2G/3G Licenses and 5 ISPs

Jan. – Feb. 2013: Launch of TunIXP and Affiliation to Euro-IX as a remote member.

April 2013: Amendment of the Telecom. Act and introduction of IXP related language.

........ 2013: An underway reform to restructure ATI.

Existing IXP/IP Transit infrastructure

The 22nd Euro-IX Forum, April 14 – 16, 2013

Until Sept. 2012: All internet traffic is routed via ATI router and via a unique ASN (AS 2609) operated by TT.

Oct. 2012: Orange started routing its internet traffic via its own IP transit gateway (AS37492)

Jan. 2013: Launch of TunIXP as there is no regulatory obligations in the license to route internet trafic via ATI infrastructure.

Feb. 2013: Host of a L-root DNS Server, the 1st in the Maghreb Arab Region.
