Doing a course in Tower Hamlets is fun and fulfilling. I am pleasedto introduce our new guide for 2009/10 which has a very widerange of courses, tasters and workshops available from pilates toweightlifting, languages, woodwork to cookery, ballet to streetdance, painting and music, both singing and playing, sewing andpattern cutting, IT, business skills, learning with your childrenand much more besides.

You could do a course that challenges your creativity and youmight surprise yourself with new talents. You could do a coursethat helps you with your career, gives you a qualification and theskills in finding a new job. Or you could do a course that helps togive you an interest away from home, improves your English,helps your fitness and you might meet some new friends. We canalso offer you help to decide what to do.

We have a very able and expert team of tutors who areexperienced in delivering courses that are stimulating anddesigned to help you make the most of your time as a student.Our centres vary, some new, some not so but all with the samewarm welcome.

Free coursesFamily Learning Courses

First Full Level 2This is equivalent to five A – C GCSEs. If this is your firstqualification at this level this is free. An assessment and/orinterview will establish whether it is suitable for you to join.

First Full Level 3Up to age 25 on 1 July 2009. This is equivalent to three Advancedlevels. If this is your first qualification at this level it is free.An assessment and/or interview will establish whether it issuitable for you to join.

Do I qualify for reduced fees? Childcare

Crèche Provision for ParentsThe London Borough of Tower Hamlets Early Years Crèche Service providescrèches which are open for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

The main centre crèches are situated at the Whitechapel Idea Store andthe Shadwell Centre. Both crèches are registered with Ofsted. Places arelimited and are offered on a first come first served basis.

Reserving a Place and EnrolmentIn order to reserve a place for your child you must contact the Early YearsCrèche Service on 020 7364 0899 and speak to Lisa-Marie Hughes orSharon Gentry. The Crèche Service will ask you for the following details;

• Your full name and contact numbers,• Your child’s/children’s name age and date of birth,• Details of your course,• Days/sessions you wish to reserve for your child.

If places are fully booked, the Crèche Service will enter your details ontoa waiting list.

When reserving your child’s crèche place you will be given a date bywhich you must call the Crèche Service back to give them your ‘LifelongService Enrolment Number’, only at this stage will your child’s crècheplace be secured. If you do not call back with your Lifelong ServiceEnrolment Number by the given date, your child’s place will be offeredto another parent.

Whitechapel and Shadwell centre crèches currently charge £2.00 per childper session. There will be no creche service at BGC for Term C.
