Tower Hill School Trustees’ Sportsmanship StatementThe Tower Hill Board of Trustees believes that athletic competition is an integral part of the educational and developmental process of our students and that many important lessons are taught through athletic experience. Therefore, athletics are a fundamental part of the total curriculum at Tower Hill, fulfilling out motto of “Multa Bene Facta,” Many Things Done Well. The objectives of coaches and teachers are identical: to help young people reach their fullest potential intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Accordingly, sportsmanship − the demonstration of appropriate conduct, honest rivalry and graceful acceptance of the outcome − is as important as the full development of athletic skills. Critical to these teachings is the expectation that our community, as well as our athletes, will demonstrate respect for everyone involved in athletic competition.

Video Presentation

Caitlin Van Sickle, a three-sport athlete and Green & White Club Award winner at Tower Hill, had an outstanding high school athletic career. She won numerous athletic awards including All-State field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. She was named the Delaware Sports Female Athlete of the Year, and she was the seventh athlete at Tower Hill to score 1,000 baskets.

Her awards in high school were just a warmup to what she has accomplished on the hockey field since then. Caitlin went on to play field hockey at the University of North Carolina and garnered many additional athletic awards at the college level. She was one of only five in UNC history to be First Team All-American three times. She was a three-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year, two-time National Defensive Player of the Year and won her team’s MVP sophomore, junior and senior years. Caitlin was team captain her senior year and received the Team Leadership Award her senior year. She competed in four National Championships and set the school record for most consecutive starts at ‘98, a record that is hard to imagine will be contested soon with

four national championship appearances. Caitlin was named Rookie of the Year her first year with UNC and graduated from the Carolina Leadership Academy as a Veteran Leader.

In 2014 the UNC field hockey team honored Caitlin by naming the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award the Caitlin “Poppy” Van Sickle Award.

Currently, Caitlin is a member of the USA Field Hockey National Team, living and training in Lancaster, PA.
