Initial What We Heard Report: Wolfville Municipal Planning Strategy Review

Introduction

We understand that Wolfville is a sophisticated community of local residents, students and seasonal visitors. The Town’s residents and businesses are very engaged with their built environment, and share a desire to grow a stronger Wolfville together. The community has participated in significant consultation events over the past few years, including a number of local, municipal, regional, and provincial initiatives. In addition to the impressive amount of public consultation and engagement that has taken place, recommendations for additional projects, new partnerships, and implementation strategies have been made. The Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) Review project intends to bring these together to inform the update to the MPS, and to make sure that work that has already been done is not repeated.

This Report identifies a preliminary list of topics and issues for discussion that will help inform the direction of the consultation events to be held in early July 2015.

We looked at the following sources to put together this Report: Imagine Downtown Wolfville Workshop Supplementary Resource Document Notes from the Recreation Vision Session Workshop Kings 2050

o Kings County Municipal Planning Strategy (July 2014 Draft for Public Consultation)

o Kings 2050 Regional Approach Report

One Nova Scotia

We have also included notes from the MPS Review Project Team’s kick-off trip to Wolfville, and the preliminary online consultation on the PlaceSpeak platform.

Interim What We Heard Reports

Two previous What We Heard Reports were presented in June 2015 and in October 2015.

Sticky Issues Handbook

Background document presenting potential ways forward for PAC and Council consideration at Workshops in November, December, and January.

Vacant Residential Land Analysis

The Vacant Residential Land Analysis examined the future residential development potential in Wolfville. It was a chapter in the Issues and Options Report in October 2015.

Boarding, Lodging, Rooming Houses Memo

Research paper outlining an approach to licensing residential rental housing for the Town of Wolfville.

Issues and Options Report

Two versions of the Issues and Options Report were presented in August 2015 and October 2015.

Public Engagement Program and Communication Strategy

Two major face-to-face public consultation exercises, ongoing online consultaton activities, and project branding throughout Phase I.
