MESSAGES from Colonel and Chief

I want to recognize the Orienteering team for the great job they did at the

Nationals!!! Being in the top 6 teams in the Nation is quite an

accomplishment and something to be proud of. You worked very hard and

that showed. Now is the time to keep training hard and move up even

more! I'm also glad everyone had such a good time on the trip! I also would

like to give my thanks to all the Cadets who have volunteered for the many

community events we are called upon to support. Patriot NJROTC is in

high demand and we are getting a great reputation in the school and in the city of Frederick,

Md. All of this is thanks to the professionalism you have displayed to the people of Frederick,

Md.

LtCol Gregg Lyon

I want to provide more information about our upcoming annual unit

orientation trip to Virginia Beach, Virginia from the afternoon of Thursday,

May 4th thru Sunday, May 7th. This trip is intended to share the stories,

equipment and facilities of our active duty Navy and Marine Corps while

visiting the world's largest Navy base. While we are still finalizing lodging

and transportation, we anticipate taking up to 40 cadets with a maximum

cost of $350.00 per cadet. The final fee will be dependent on the total

number of cadets and our ultimate transportation and lodging cost. Besides meals and a

museum/harbor boat tour, all planned activities will be free of charge. These planned

activities include tours aboard active duty ships, submarines and aircraft as well as 2 base

tours. Once all details are finalized, we will send a notice to all cadets and parents.

Chief Michael Rodrigues

MEET THE STAFF

The following are the exclusive interviews with four of our staff. The staff were asked about their positions, length of the positions, job responsibilities, accomplishments, suggestions to improve unit performance, and hobbies and/or extracurricular activities.

My name is Ethan Riegel. I am a senior from Linganore High School. I have been Supply Officer since May 2016. My responsibilities include maintaining the supply room, issuing uniform components , and keeping records of materials issued by the navy. My most significant accomplishment has been the complete clean and inventory check. At this point everything is accounted for in our records. I think that to improve Unit performance we need to improve our communication methods to help cadets to know what is needed of them as well as what events are coming up. When I'm not locked in the supply closet I spend my time camping (either by myself, or with my scout troop), shooting clay pigeons at my local range, and purposefully getting lost in the woods (i.e. orienteering).

My name is Robert Xu. I am a sophomore from Governor Thomas Johnson High School. I have been an officer since May 2016, first as Assistant Public Affairs Officer and then Public Affairs Officer. My responsibilities include promoting public knowledge and understanding of our mission and organization, and preparing information for news releases and other social media channels such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. My one significant contribution has been crafting unit monthly newsletters. To improve the unit as a whole, we need to increase cadet participation in unit activities, get more cadets to work on advancement to higher ranks, and encourage them to be role models for other students at school. In addition to NJROTC, I enjoy swimming, programming, playing the piano, and so forth.

My name is Steven Stabler. I am a junior from Governor Thomas Johnson High School. I have been Assistant Training Officer since May 2016. My responsibilities include assisting the Training Officer, instilling Navy and Marine Corps knowledge into cadets, leading/instructing drill sessions, updating CDMIS, and ultimately preparing cadets for advancement tests. Our biggest achievement is updating all cadets training records (folders and CDMIS) from scratch. To improve unit performance, we should implement and continue to implement knowledge and strict discipline unto all cadets. In addition to NJROTC, I play club football (soccer) for FC Frederick.
