Join us June 8July 10 for a dynamic and diverse array of excitingsummer programs for campers in preschool through 8th grade.

At City Country Camps, theres something fun for everyone!

RegistrationRegistration is easy using the link on The Philadelphia School website (tpschool.org). New userswill be able to create a login and password as part of the registration process. Please be sure to usean email address that you check regularly, as most City Country Camps correspondence will be

done through email. A confirmation email will be sent to families once registration is complete.

Deposits and FeesPlease go to the online registration site for a detailed listing of camps and fees. UntilMay 1, 2015 payment may be made in full or via a non-refundable deposit. All balancesdue will be charged automatically to the account holders credit card on May 2, 2015.Any registration made after May 1, 2015 must be paid in full and will incur a $50 lateregistration fee. All payments are non-refundable.

Drop-off and Pick-up

Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up for City Country Camps takes place in the school yardat the Lombard Street property. Camps begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Early drop-offis available free of charge beginning at 8:00 a.m. Afternoon pick-up for all campers (unlesspre-enrolled in the Extended Day Program) is promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Extended DayExtended Day is available for an additional fee from 3:005:30 p.m. each day. Pre-enrollment forthe Extended Day Program ends on May 1st. The cost is $20/day. Drop-ins will be accepted bynoon on any given day, if space is available, at the cost of $25/day. Pick-up from Extended Day ispromptly at 5:30 p.m. from the Lombard Street building. Late pick-up fees apply after 5:30 p.m.

What to BringCampers should bring a lunch including a drink each day. We also encourage you to send a waterbottle. Campers in grades 18 will have recess and lunch at Markward Playground and/or FitlerSquare. A mid-morning snack will be provided (as well as afternoon snack for those campersenrolled in Extended Day).

Who are the Staff?City Country Camps staff includes a creative and talented group of teachers,artists, coaches, scientists, actors, makers, outdoor adventurers, andadministrators who all share the same goalproviding a valuableand enjoyable camp experience for every camper!

Can I register my child by the day or for partial weeks?

Campers may register for full weeks only. City Country Camps does notpro-rate for partial attendance or absence from a program. Please note thatcamps willbe in session on Friday, July 3.

What does a typical day look like?Campers who arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. will have an opportunityfor supervised play in the school yard. Camps begin at 9:00 a.m. and break fora mid-morning snack and recess around 10:30 a.m. Campers will have lunchand outdoor recess around noon before returning to their selected campactivities for the balance of the day. Those campers enrolled in Extended Daywill have opportunities for a variety of activities daily, including art, games,and athletics.

Does my child have to attend The Philadelphia School

during the academic year?Absolutely not! Children from other schools are welcome and encouragedto attend all camps with the exception of the ASEP Early Summer Program(June 812).

ASEP EarlySummer Program

The Art of Memory

Come explore the inner workings of

our mysterious minds!

For campers currently in Preschool5th grade

Join ASEP Director Diane Pepe and her talentedstaff for a week-long investigation of The Art of Memory.Campers will be introduced to the science and processesof memory through hands-on creative projects, animatedshorts, music, and movement. We will learn about the ancientGreeks Art of Memory and memory-enhancing processessuch as association, context, order, emotion, repetition andarchitectural mnemonics. Campers will experience firsthandhow early man recorded memories by constructing woodenLukasa memory boards. We will also create colorful memorycollages. The week will include a choice of indoor andoutdoor activities, two field trips for 1st 5th graders, dailymid-morning snack, and the exciting and fun-filled Annual

Water Carnival. Please note that enrollment in the ASEP EarlySummer Program is open to current TPS students only.

Young Inventors Camp

This summer, we embark on four fun-filled weeks exploration and invention. Campers will hear stories ofscientists and inventors and, using recycled items from

TPS Maker Studio, will make inventions of their own. Wup a take-apart station and have plenty of opportunitfor mixing lotions and potions, cooking creations and hmessy, ooey gooey fun! Well also spend time each dayenjoying the sprinklers and wading pools. Come preparto invent and explore both indoors and out!

Coach C and Obvious Choice Sports return to ThPhiladelphia School for a dynamic summer of athleticfun! Campers will learn and improve their skills under guidance of talented and experienced coaching staff ia variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, hockeand dodgeball. Art Studio: Mixed Media

Take your artwork to the next level during this summers

Mixed Media camp. Participants will learn new techniquesand have the opportunity to experiment with a wide varietyof materials including clay, plaster, wire, paint, tiles, and more!Campers will create unique art pieces through a variety ofthemes and subject matter. Projects may include drawing,painting, collage, sculpture, and image transfer. Bring yourcreativity and imagination as we explore the possibilities ofmixed media art!

Campers will learn the art and craft of clay whilehaving fun and exploring their creativity! Join us for a weekof exciting hands-on projects. Join our own national championship chess coach,Ross Colby, for a week of intensive chess instruction. Playerswill participate in strategy sessions, tournament matches,simultaneous exhibitions, and of course speed and bughouse round robins. Ross haseither played on or coached teams that have won state andnational championships in Arizona, North Carolina, andPennsylvania; in fact, two TPS teams have even won nationa

Digital Media

Explore the art of storytelling using todays mostinnovative technology tools. In this week-long exploration of

media, we will explore an interest of yours though multipleforms of media. Participants will create and share storiesand experiences using creative imagery, captivating audioreporting, and innovative video. By the end of the week,campers will have produced several expressive works thatshare their insights on their own chosen topics. Do you loveto share stories? Do you want to explore multiple mediums ofsharing? Are you interested in journalism, creative writing, orsocial media? If you answered yes to any of these questions,then Digital Media camp is for you!

Digital Photography

Campers will be immersed in the art and craft of digitalphotography and introduced to the tools necessary to capturegreat images and refine them through digital imaging. Nophotography experience necessary! Challenge your creativityboth in the classroom and in the field. Complete a seriesof digital photography challenges, and then use the photoediting tools in Adobe Photoshop to add layers of digitalartistry to your photos. We will spend time taking photographs

on neighborhood walks during the week, while exploringwhat makes a good photograph and the fundamentals ofcomposition and lighting. Campers will learn the basicsof Photoshop to refine images and will experiment withtechniques such as cropping, filters, layers, and brushes.

Fiber Arts

Journey into the colorful and creative world of FiberArts! Campers will spend the week exploring ways to wowith wool, fabric, and yarn, including dying our own yarn(using Kool Aid!), sewing, and needle felting, which is atraditional method of sculpting and painting with wool.Participants will learn to use a sewing machine and willhave the opportunity to sew a patchwork pillow, make atote bag, and cut pattern pieces to sew a simple garmentto wear! No knitting or sewing skills needed. Well learnand explore together!

Fishing & Bridge Design

JUNE 1519


For many of us, we see and drink the Schuylkill Riverevery day (40% of our drinking water comes from it), yet wrarely interact directly with it. We will spend our morningsfishing along the Schuylkill River and exploring the basicsof casting, baiting, and reeling. A range of bait will also betested, and data will be recorded daily to keep track of ourfindings. In the afternoon, we will explore the structuresthat allow us to stand over this and other rivers: bridges.

The engineering and design of bridges has evolved over thcenturies, yet some basic principles remain. Campers willdesign and create their own bridges using various materiaBy the end of the week, each participant will have created scale model of a bridge that is not only functional, but alsohas a style straight out of his or her imagination!

Fishing & Dissection

JUNE 29JULY 3


Come spend your mornings catch-and-release fishingon the Schuylkill River! Under the expert direction of our own7th-grade teacher and angler, Virginia Friedman, campers willspend half the day along the river and the other half indoorsdoing related activities, including dissection. Learn aboutthe anatomy of three major fish groups (jawless, bony, andcartilaginous) as we closely examine catfish, skate, perch,lamprey, and others. Campers will collect and graph datafrom daily catches and learn about the proper care anduse of a fishing rod. No prior fishing experience or fishing

equipment necessary.

Foxwalkers: Wilderness Skills Camp

Participants in the Foxwalkers Wilderness Skills Camp willlearn the ways of the wild through tracking games, navigationactivities, and wild plant hikes. Come learn outdoor skills likepurifying water, building shelters, and making fire. Test theseskills in water wars, a silent night hike, and the ultimate stalkingexperience of the Lantern Game. Well begin the week withtwo days at TPS as we prepare for our time in the woods. OnWednesday, campers will meet at TPS and then head to RicketsGlen in the Poconos for three days and two nights of camping.Campers will be tent-camping but do not need to have atent to participate. Come join us for an unforgettable week ofoutdoor fun!

Firekeepers: Advanced Wilderness

Skills Camp

Are you ready to take the outdoor skills you learned asa Foxwalker to a whole new level? Join us for the FirekeepersAdvanced Wilderness Camp for five days and four nights in the

beautiful Rickets Glen woods! We will build advanced shelterswhich you have the option to sleep in. Develop a keener senseof the plant and animal life with wild edible collections and livanimal tracking. Advanced skills in fire-making, water locatingwhittling, and bow making will also be practiced. If youve eveday-dreamed about what it would be like to live off the grid, tsurvive an apocalypse, to escape zombies, or to participate inThe Hunger Games, then come sharpen your survival skills andhave a blast with us at Firekeepers! Completion of FoxwalkersWilderness Skills Camp (this summer or in a previous one) is aprerequisite for Firekeepers.

Philadelphias own Performance Art Center for Kids(PACK) is thrilled to be collaborating with TPS for a Broadway-style theatrical production experience that your performerwill never forget! Combining acting, singing, dancing,theatrical design, and script analysis, students will rehearsefor two weeks in preparation for a production of E.B. Whitesbeloved classic, Charlottes Web. Camperswho can attend for the first week only are welcome to join inthe creative fun and will be able to participate in a previewshow on Friday, June 26. PACK Director, Jessica Noel, hasbeen producing childrens theatre for 15 years, using theproduction process as an empowering tool that builds artisticpride and courage in her students. Printmaking & Mixed Media JUNE 1519


Discover the fun of printmaking! This week, the thrill ofmultiplying your creations will be yours as we use styrofoammetal, cardboard, and other materials to produce and replicexciting images. Campers will explore stamps, relief printingembossing, and try their hand at screen printing using avariety of inks, papers, and tools. We will also delve into theexperimental realm of mixed media by incorporating imagetransfers, painting, and sculpture.

Super Cool Science

This summer, our junior scientists will plunge intowonder-filled, mind-bending experiments! Campers willembark on a week-long scientific adventure into themysterious worlds of chemistry, physics, biology, geology,and even forensics. Create an erupting geyser, write secret

messages with invisible ink, make a fruit battery, and learnabout centripetal force while somehow staying dry as youspin a bucket of water above your head. Come learn howthe amazing world around us actually works!

Theatre: PAPAYA at TPS

This camp is the real deal: a fun and dynamic program thatwill focus on the authentic building blocks of theatre practice,including warm-ups, theatre games, improvisation, scenework, vocal production, and beginning stage design. Campers

will have the opportunity to create authentic work that willprovide them with insight into theatre as a lens through whichto see and understand the world. PAPAYA (PA Performing Artsfor Young Audiences) presents and produces the finest workfor young audiences and the adults that accompany them.PAPAYA at TPS will be taught by working professionals in thefield, with seminars from some of the top practitioners inPhiladelphia today. PAPAYAs Artistic Director for Productionis Whit MacLaughlin (Arden Theatre, InterAct Theatre, NewParadise Laboratories), and our lead instructor is Katie Croyle, aprofessional actor, who has taught the Actors Workshop afterschool at TPS for the past three years.

Bring your creativity and enthusiasm as we spend a weekimmersed in woodworking! Campers will learn about a variety

of tools and techniques as they turn original project ideas intoreality. Possible projects may include constructing a stool, abox, a bookshelf, birdhouse, musical instrument, a game, andmore! Campers will work individually and collaboratively toplan, measure, cut, build, and decorate their projects using basichand tools. Safety and proper use of protective eyewear will bestressed at all times as campers work with saws, drills, chisels,hammers, and screwdrivers. Woodworking experience is notrequired; only a desire to learn new skills and have fun!

Wrestling

Through games, drills, instruction, and sparring, boys andgirls will learn the art and craft of wrestling. Participants willpractice using their bodies creatively and efficiently. By tacklingcommon challenges and working hard together, camperswill form strong peer bonds. Built into each day will be team-building activities and character development conversations.Wrestlers will gain competence and confidence, while mostimportantly, having fun!

Come join Coach Meg for You Go Girls Summer Camp! Wehave all the time we need to run, play, and build friendships witfellow Sole Sisters. Each participant will have a video analysis

of form, support with personal goal-setting, and fun break-outsessions around body image and healthy nutrition. Camperswill learn important core and plyometric exercises that preventinjury and help strengthen the body as it grows. Well even havea few surprise guest speakers. The distance run each day is achallenge by choice of 14 miles across different activities. MeWaldron has coached You Go Girls for 6 years and has run andcoached for over 25 years from youth to collegiate level. She iscompleting her Masters in Sport Psychology.

Session 1 will include an introduction to running with partnerand in a group, proper form, gear, and hydration, as well asfun games that get us moving while reinforcing positive

group dynamics.

Session 2 will provide an opportunity to work on personalrunning goals such as completing a 5K or establishing a personrecord in shorter distances like the half-mile or mile. Participantwill learn how to set up a training program, prevent injury, anduse running as a foundation for other sports and lifelong fitness
