LOCKUP DESIGN -To confirm modulated lockup in 1991-92 vehicles, check the TCC solenoid located on the pump body.Square solenoid = ON-OFF Round solenoid = modulated lockup (PWM)
TURBINE SHAFT SPLINE -On December 20, 1993, Ford changed the Turbine Shaft from 23 splines to 25 splines.Count the splines for the 1994 model year to match the proper converter with the correct spline.
Do not interchange converters or damage will occur.
TWIN DISC LOCKUP PISTONS -Ford started using a 2 piston (twin) lockup converter in1996 to increase torque capacity. To determine if theconverter is a single or twin disc design externally,check the turbine spline. A turbine with a two boss markinghas a single piston, while a four boss marking is a twin disc.
